Re: The athletics/running thread
In the context of much of this thread it is chicken-feed, BUT... I have just got to the end of week 5 of the NHS couch-to-5K plan - and today I ran (albeit not at Seb Coe pace!) for a full 20mins WITHOUT STOPPING and without any recovery walks in between!
I found myself thinking that the running was fine, physically, not much of a big deal - and that the biggest problem was mental - the boredom of it - or whenever I began to think how far there was to go...
this is the longest I have run in over 20 years - since I stopped playing rugby at Uni (and hence training for each new season) - and - shock/horror - I think I am starting to actually LIKE running...

And as i'm feeling kind i'll run you a proper hot bath with lots of bubbles rather then an ice bath! Reckon you deserve it!

Which part of LONG RUN did you not understand?

Seriously, though, well done! Now you need to find a local 5k park run and enter it. Most running clubs have a free to enter or nominal fee run on Saturday mornings.
Crack on!

I think I'll finish the full 9-week program before entering any public events! there are always 5k charity runs around though - so I will probably go for one or two of those eventually - I can beat an octogenarian in a Mr Blobby suit surely?

Ya think?
If you want to get really (anal)ytical about your time/ distance you can go to mapmyrun.com and plot the run you did if, as I presume, it was on the roadside. Once you've plotted the run and submitted your time it will tell you your mins. per mile, how many calories you've burned and things like the metres elevation climbed etc.
It's abit of fun which can also monitor you as you progress.

Well done for sticking with it Bish. We're in that time of the year when it can be really hard to drag yourself outside and do some exercise, so much respect for you doing it now
