Coyle "Players are to blame"

What do we make of this? If as Coyle seems to be saying the players are good enough, but not doing what he asks, and not standing up and "being counted", then perhaps he needs to look at the underlying reasons for that..........

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
I like this from Coyle - we need more of it
He now needs to close down the holiday camp & get shut of the ping pong, darts and pool table, stop all these days off and get the players in working hard - on fitness, technique & tactics, if they can only play for 45 mins get them fitter so they can play for 90 mins
Apart from Wheater (and possibly Cahill) the players seem to be mentally weak, no fight, no passion, no effort, no bottle and do not play for the manager, the shirt or the fans - when the going gets tough they shrink, they should have been flying at West Brom in the last 20 mins but instead they couldn't be arsed or perhaps just arn't motivated.
We need players who would run through a brick wall, play flat out for 90 mins for the whites - like KD did a few years ago !
Apart from 1 or 2 games NRC has been rubbish, which is a major disappointment because I expected much more from him, he goes missing on the pitch when the going gets tough which is the opposite to what I expected from him - I thought he would be a leader on the pitch but he's not.
Talking of leaders - Kevin Davies is past it, we do need leaders on the pitch but unfortunately he's no longer one of them - give the captains armband to Cahill or Wheater.

Think your response would have been more accurate if you'd just said "whooooooooooooooosh"Wandering Willy wrote:Coyle too friendly with players. BWFCi complains.

Megson said this and got roundly abused.

Sounds very Megsonesque as stated before.
Which leads to the question, why are they no longer playing for the manager and following orders?

Perhaps he could stop leaving it there then.

Getting tough with players in the media is great.
Let's try not to be too complimentary to the opposition please, or at least wait til after the game.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
My issue is we did well first half.
No chance our players went in at half time and went feck this, can't be arsed second half.
So what changed? And who could have done something about it?

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
I'm confused why we have Coyle, then, in quotation marks, something that never appears in either of the two articles you posted.

Exactly. A very different Bolton team came out in the second half. Something must have happened or been said in the dressing room, for the majority of our players to suddenly not perform. It was too obvious the drastic team change in the teams attitude and work rate not to notice.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
Hodgson changed his tactics at half time and Coyle didn't have an answer for it, hence the team struggled.BWFC_Insane wrote:My issue is we did well first half.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
I'm not having that they went in at half time and Coyle said 'Well done boys, job done, just go and piss about for the next 45". We were fine first half, what changed was West Brom targeted our right hand side (not Robbo) and we were fooked. It's unfair to suggest Coyle fecked up at half time. It is fair to say he didn't enough, or it seemed, anything, to change things once it became clear West Brom had us sussed.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
Blimey, if we can't finger him for half time tea talks he truly is blameless!
I think they spiked our oranges, or magic sponge.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
Folk put waaaaaaaaaay to much on 'team-talks'. I blame Football Manager and that Al Pacino 'inches' speech. First half was fine. Keep doing that (presumably, despite hilarious witticisms, according to what we worked on in training). Maybe the odd little tweak but no more. Nothing to blame in that. The problem was when they had clearly targeted our right hand side and we did absolutely nothing to combat it, in the vain hope that, against all evidence, Riley and Mavies would fluke it out. That was blindingly obvious for at least ten minutes prior to the goal, and it is that he wants blaming for.

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
Thats my point. Not the team talk, but the fact that for 10 minutes leading up to their goal even Stevie Wonder could see what was happening.Prufrock wrote:Folk put waaaaaaaaaay to much on 'team-talks'. And our manager couldn't. Thats what worries me more than ever. Says the team didn't "dig in". If thats what you want Owen give them a chance to do it!

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
This is the problem with coyle, hodgson tactically out witted him at half time and he is clued up enough to see what has happened and change it in the second half through subs.
His public slagging off is megsonesque and brings his sacking ever closer.
Keep it in the dressing room muppet

Re: Coyle "Players are to blame"
In my opinion it is the players that are the problem this time around though, and not the manager, whereas it was the manager with Megson. Under Megson is was so damn predictable, seeing Steinsson or Zat Knight hoof the ball up to Kevin Davies 500 times a match. Now, the ball is on the deck a lot more and the actual team selection is as good as it gets, so what more can Coyle do when those players are out on the pitch? It's them who aren't doing the running and putting the effort in.jmjhb wrote:Megson said this and got roundly abused.
