Very foggy and 3 degrees at the start. Once you started though the fog was like having a fine spray of water fired at you which kept me very cool and may explain the pb.thebish wrote:nice one! gorgeous day here - was it the same in st Neots?Gary the Enfield wrote:In my post-race funk. St.Neots half marathon completed in 1:36:17 and a new pb. Got home to roast pork with trimmings and strawberry pavlova ( home made) for pud. Fat tum and very sleepy now.

we had patches of that today too - some of it quite thick... fog on helmet visor renders me virtually blind at 70MPH...Gary the Enfield wrote:Very foggy and 3 degrees at the start. Re: The athletics/running thread
Fantastic effort & time GtE - well done.
We had 'a real pea souper and no mistake Govnr' in Bolton this morning. Wife thought I'd gone grey when I got back from my run with my head covered in frozen droplets of water!
I'm two weeks into a new training regime from Daniels Running Formula and it's going quite well. Sounds daft but prior to reading this I hadn't realised how sporadic my training had been. I've always been aiming for a marathon or some distance challenge and my runs have consisted of ramping up the miles over 16 weeks then tapers, then race. In 3 years of running I'd never really concentrated on building a good core fitness. Now I'm on a program that stays the same for 6 weeks before the miles increase. Todays 10 mile recovery run was so much easier than last weeks.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Yep, me also. Went in search of a pseudo-Lake District run to emulate the ground I'll cover on the Bob Graham (otherwise it'll get too expensive keeping driving up to the Lakes just to practice. So I needed a vicious uphill and then lots of undulating hills in a long middle section before a testing downhill section - picked on Derwent edge in the end (about 10 miles starting at Ladybower with a long steep ascent up to Lost Lad, then over Back Tor and onto the edge).
So ran it yesterday. Started at 10am and difficult to navigate through a heavy wet mist, before the sun managed to break through and drive the worst of it off. Enjoyable though, and nice and easy underfoot.

Spikes or trainers for cross country? Anyone? And if spikes, what length do i need for cross country? I only have short ones for Triple Jumping.

Either or GG. Just dont try and do it in trail shoes. I did a passable impression of my dog on the laminate floor when the Postman comes in when trying it in trails.Gooner Girl wrote:Spikes or trainers for cross country? Anyone? Now, I wear Inov8 mudclaws. I cant praise em enough.

They work for me HG without having to mess about with spikes. They clean under the tap too!Harry Genshaw wrote:Aah the famous Walsh's.

What I MEAN is they're remarkably easy to maintain. No messing about screwing and unscrewing spikes.

Well, will take both Spikes and trainers and see what the weather/conditions are like on the day. Now, do you usually wear lycra hotpants or leggings?
