Maybe, maybe not, but it's his job to prepare them for the match - which includes getting their heads reet. That's part of what we pay him for. I don't mind if he does it by taking them away, playing ping-pong or whatever as long as it works, but I'm not seeing much evidence of that at the moment.boltonboris wrote:Jokers in White wrote:Yeah he signed a 2.5 year deal, so would be a free agent in the summer. But we can't keep losing games all the time mate, if he would have learned from his mistakes this season with team selection, tactics, giving them days off all the time rewarding them for doing sweet FA, then we wouldnt be in this mess now. The only way he could get us out of this shite now is if he grow some balls unlikely isnt it.boltonboris wrote:I'm not a Coyle out-er by any means, but didn't he sign a 2.5 year deal? If that's the case, would he be a free agent, so to speak at the end of the season? Or did he sign an extension last season?
Not unlikely at all. Giving players time away from all the shit is also productive, it's not Coyles fault that the players have the mental state of a menstrual teenager.
Allardyce used to do it a lot. Get the players to regain a bit of focus and come back stronger
Vs Everton at home our historical record is:
P68 W27 L28 D13.
They are the only team in the Prem (* not looked at this year's promotees) that have a better record at our gaff, than we do.

But seriously, having kept the same starting line-up for the last game because they won 5-0 the time before, do you think he'll tinker, or stick with it again?

Stick with. I'm coming to the conclusion he's clueless. The Axman wrote:You no miss draws, you mister ratbert.ratbert wrote:I want a draw. I miss draws.

What a hero, What a man...... Ooooh, what a bad foul...

I've got a feeling he'll tinker, big style. I think he'll start with N'gog up front on his own. Though I agree with you insofar as I'm also of the opinion he's clueless.Andy Waller wrote:Stick with. I wouldn't mind seeing Ngog and Davies up front? Klasnic has all the talent but he's bloody bone idle.

Ngog has look pretty sharp when he's played. He looked good at Wigan. Then again, I'm cluching wildly at straws with the team at the moment.

No doubt he has ability, but he hasn't looked like transferring that into goals. I mentioned to somebody else a while ago, that he looks like he doesn't want to get into the opportunities in which he might miss a chance. That shows a lack of confidence in his goalscoring.
He's obviously confident of his general ability though, as he comes deep and always wants the ball, but around the box he is static

You're owen Coyle and I claim my £5.Andy Waller wrote:Ngog has look pretty sharp when he's played. He looked good at Wigan. Then again, I'm cluching wildly at straws with the team at the moment.

I am at a loss to try to think about how well we play for a game then crap for subsequent games? Do we have a team with prem standard fitness levels, do the players give a feck, does OC give a feck and is the Champonship a more attractive proposition for the board? Luckilly the bottom half of the table is as crap as we appear to be, so a few games on the bounce is really all we need and then some gentle momentum. I know all our seasons are exciting, but this one is terrifying. Need to put some in against Everton but we need to up our work rate.

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

F'cough .... they're on a bit of a run !!
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I think it's unfair to question Coyle's commitment.. he seems as down as anybody about the current predicament

Course it is (along with the players)
His apparent lack of ability doesn't mean he doesn't care

I wouldn't question that at all. I think he's the right man for the job, we just need more on the coaching side. Maybe keep Coyle and get some coaching help?boltonboris wrote:Course it is (along with the players)

For me it has to be something like this on formation:
---------Jussi----------
Boyata-Cahill-Wheater-Robbo
------Muamba-Coker-------
Eagles-----MDavies---Petrov
---------Klasnic-----------
We really need to get back to that Sam Allardyce 'playing to strengths' mentality. Under Allardyce, our strike force was amazing as we played to everyone's strengths:
- Diouf - Going out wide and beating a man and getting loads of assists
- Davies - Winning headers left right and centre (unfortunately something he no longer does)
- Anelka - Sheer quality of finishing
We never saw Davies going out on the wing and putting in a cross like we do now, we never saw Anelka trying to win a header, we played to all of their strengths. The team above needs to start doing that:
- Muamba and Reo Coker - Both great ball winners but not good in attack, both need to stay back and do the donkey work
- Eagles and Petrov - Lets use them to their strengths, taking on a man and getting a cross in. Sod the donkey work with these two, the two above can do that.
- Mark Davies - He is not a winger, he doesn't like being on the wing and he proved last season against Blackpool he can be a great link up in centre midfield with a striker.
- Klasnic - Just stick him in and around the box, he can just hover round there until the ball goes near him. There's no point him tracking back as he's a lazy sod and even if he is there, he can't win it anyway. Just stick to getting in positions to finish it off!

Everything you have listed, we currently do.. To the detriment of the team.
So often our midfield 2 are far too deep.
So often the lack of workrate from our wingers exposes our full backs.
So often klasnic is lambasted for not working hard enough.
So often Mark Davies has looked totally out of his depth as part of a 2 man central midfield.

Not all, but somewhat, see below

Muamba staying back and winning the ball has been one of the only plus points to our season so far, plus it stops him spooning shots into row Z
So often the lack of workrate from our wingers exposes our full backs.
I've said it all along, it's not their job. If the full backs are that shit that they need cover, that should come from Muamba and Reo-Coker, not the two wingers
So often klasnic is lambasted for not working hard enough.
Again, my initial post was to play to strengths, we all know he doesn't work hard enough but he's the only player in the squad that knows how to finish a ball properly so has to be included
So often Mark Davies has looked totally out of his depth as part of a 2 man central midfield.
I didn't name a two man centre midfield, I named a 3 man centre midfield
