Relax BWFCi, in this age of internet monitoring he's probably up there with Hoboh on a CEE IYE AYE list of suspicious charcters to be carefully watched.BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah I know...Worthy4England wrote: I think you need to differentiate between "wind-up" and "world domination", I know some might consider them fairly close, but the man with the moustache actually went out and shot people.
Get a grip.
But if he'd said it about Blacks, Jews or Muslims then he'd be censored. And rightly so.
What he said was pretty silly, even if in jest. And I'm not sure being grossly offensive to large groups of people whether in jest or not is acceptable. If he'd said "I don't agree with them" thats one thing saying "I'd have them shot" or whatever, is going too far even as a joke in my book!
Not that I'm angry about it....just think it was a stupid thing to say!

Except Blacks, Jews or Muslims don't choose to be black, jewish or muslim. These people have chosen to strike, and fair play to them, but equally people are allowed to disagree with it. Of course the manner he did so was deliberately aggravating in his over the top bombastic way, but I think 'grossly offensive' is a bit much, and if people are grossly offended by that then they want to grow thicker skins. If he was genuinley inciting people to go out and shoot strikers then fair enough, but seriously, it's that car bloke being a knob to get a rise, and people keep falling for it!BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah I know...Worthy4England wrote: I think you need to differentiate between "wind-up" and "world domination", I know some might consider them fairly close, but the man with the moustache actually went out and shot people.

I know what you are saying but being that car bloke doesn't give him an excuse to say what he wants!Prufrock wrote:Except Blacks, Jews or Muslims don't choose to be black, jewish or muslim. As you say not worth getting annoyed about but at the same time, I can see why it's raised ire amongst some!
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
No, being a person gives him an excuse to say what he wants up to a very distant point. I think if he were a member of the government then there might be a point that as part of their job they have an extra duty not to try to offend people, but he has made a career in entertainment from having 'strong opinion' (it is clearly all an act anyway) and driving round blowing up caravnas, calling lorry drivers prostitute murderers and the deep south that Nascar is shit. 'Grossly offensive', 'an excuse to say what he wants', these are all terms that should be reserved for truly vile comments, not that bloke of the telly who says risqué things to get a reaction saying risqué things to get a reaction!
I've no problem with people saying, 'did you hear Jeremy Clarkson last night, what a dick?' it's those getting all in a fluster saying it's a scandal and it should be banned and the BBC shouldn't be broadcasting such offensive hatred. Pfft. It's that tall bloke from the car show. Stop bloody whinging.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
it's not a scandal - and protesting about it merely plays into his hands - it's what he wants.
There are lots of things that are irritating about clarkson, but chiefly, for me, it's that his "targets" are all so utterly obvious and "Daily Mail" - there's no imagination required or innovation in the humour - it's just boorish and obvious...

Aren't his targets normally the environment, the ozone layer and wildlife?thebish wrote:it's not a scandal - and protesting about it merely plays into his hands - it's what he wants.

Maybe I give him too much credit, but I always think there is something tongue in cheek about him, similar to Ricky Gervais.
But that's besides the point, it's the car bloke saying really not that offensive stuff to get people in a fluster and suddenly there are words like 'disgrace' and 'shocking' being bandied about by precisely the people he was aiming for a reaction from.

Top Gear DVDs/books/stuff out for Xmas!
I think I'd be offended if I watched the one show no matter who's on. That's why I stick to grown up programs that aren't on at primetime on popular channels.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Do the outragerati really think Clarkson would actually shoot anybody, execute them in front of their families or even believe what he himself said? If they do, then they must be addle-brained. If they don't, then why react at all? Outrage, the new sense of humour transplant.

Ermm my point is that I'm not really bothered about it, but you can't just say something and say 'oh it's ok I didn't mean it and won't actually do it' and it be necessarily ok!TANGODANCER wrote:Do the outragerati really think Clarkson would actually shoot anybody, execute them in front of their families or even believe what he himself said? You mean like folk encouraging KD to break Evra's leg isn't okay? I'll ring the Daily Mail immediately and report it.BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermm my point is that I'm not really bothered about it, but you can't just say something and say 'oh it's ok I didn't mean it and won't actually do it' and it be necessarily ok!TANGODANCER wrote:Do the outragerati really think Clarkson would actually shoot anybody, execute them in front of their families or even believe what he himself said? Listening to the radio on the way home, someone likened him to Gadaffi.

Anyhow, aren't the largest complainants in this particular story, there to protect people's jobs?
Having defended the "rights" of the utterly stupid on occasion as a Union Rep, I thought it would be inconceivable that they'd want someone to lose their job over something so obviously a wind up.
Obviously they can't see how this might be somewhat inconsistent...

Are you really this much of a fanny? Depends what is said though doesn't it! I could easily post something on here 'in jest' that lots would find offensive.TANGODANCER wrote:You mean like folk encouraging KD to break Evra's leg isn't okay?
