His acceptance of the award at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, from fashion photographer Mario Testino, was briefly delayed when a streaker, clad seemingly in only a pink tutu and with the words "study this" scrawled on his chest, invaded the stage before being tackled to the ground and removed by security guards.

Pretty obvious Boris, it's a quietly atmospheric, lyrically autumnal sculptural installation recalling a melancholy urban park with its metallic trees and scattered paper leaves,

Bruce gave the key to understanding art a while back. You just stroke your chin with one hand, tilt your head and nod, and it all falls into place. Still looks like a pile of shite though.

It looks like it could be a table..

A shit table, that only a pretentious wanker would buy. but yet it isn't actually a table.

So it's probably just a 'thing' that only a pretentious wanker would buy.. Is that 'art'?

Unlikely to find a 'pretentious wanker' to buy it unless they had a very big spare room, since the whole thing is created in a large studio, using every part of it, and the section of the installation being focussed on here (understandably) is only a small part of it.

I watched the (disappointingly short) C4 documentary on the short list that preceded the announcement of the winner. There was enough there to make me interested in going to the Baltic to find out more.

I'm sure there's plenty of pretentious wankers with very large spare rooms out there.

I only quoted the article. Personally, I thought it was Chris Evans waiting for his order in a chip shop.

If I had the money I'd buy it.

this piece of art doesn't really float my boat - maybe the photos don't do it justice...

but.. the world would be a poorer place if everything's value were judged by a standard of "usefulness"

If you cut this thing up then you'd have several 'works of art' and could coin it in. 8)

Fair point and I wouldn't suggest that at all.

In this instance we are well into "Emperor's New Clothes" territory, so it's cut the bastard thing up for me.

It's a copy anyway, and not a good one.

Here's the original:
