You know what I mean.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Who can save us ??
Souness is shit. He destroyed the Boot Room at Liverpool: he inherited a proven management system that had worked for years under at least 5 managers (Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Moran) and discarded it and then proceeded to drag Liverpool from greatness down into mediocrity.
Why not go for youth/relative inexperience. There are plenty of eager (and good, some of them very very good) managers in the basement divisions who'd jump at the chance to wrestle Bolton out of the mire.
What's so marvellous about experience anyway. All the greats started out without it [Clough, Mourinho
, Ferguson
, Shankly, Paisley, Revie, Warnock
:]
In fact, what about that Korean fella that Worthy4England posted about {General Banter/Bath City}, or even that 10 year-old that's controlling David Luiz

There's no guarantee that's going to happen with the current manager either.Bijou Bob wrote:I'm completely cool with keeping Coyle. We will go down and I'll enjoy trips to more exotic stadiums in far flung towns where we actually have a chance of winning matches, as opposed to the last 4 years where at least 6 times a season, I'd sooner have just gifted teams the 3 points and avoided the matches.
Bring on the fizzy pop league - better football, far more equitable, a chance of some excitement, cheaper pies at away games.
Bit of a large assumption there.
Same shite one div lower, would still be the same shite, albeit at some different locations and possibly with cheaper pies.
I flit between these two viewpoints all the time about getting relegated. Yes, new grounds to visit, many of which Ive never been to and a welcome break from going to the same old stadiums to get the same old beating time and again. Some great towns and citites to visit that havent been on our fixture list for some time etc.
But then also, for every trip to places like Leeds or Bristol for example, there's a Barnsley at home or a Millwall away. There's matches on Tuesday/Wednesday nights almost every week of the season and the thought of our home games being played in an even emptier shell than at present doesnt fill me with much excitement.
Also the point about ticket categories is a good one, I hadnt thought about that and we'd be considered a big scalp at least in the first season back down anyway - ticket prices at away games would probably reflect that. A cheaper experience? Doubt it, same prices for coach/train travel around the country - with more games to play as well in a total dog eat dog division with everyone taking points off eachother.
Whats the point of football?
Re: Who can save us ??
Ole Gunnar solksjear hasn't done to bad in his first year of management winning the Norwegian league with a side that hadn't won it in 100 years..
Just throwing a name out there with most others having already been posted.

Yes, we're bottom of the league and cant win for toffee. Let's appoint an unproven inexperienced manager, Sammy Lee perhapsThe Axman wrote:Souness is shit. Re: Who can save us ??
With some of the names that have been mentioned mentioned, Bruce, Keane, we would be better sticking with Owen Coyle. Somebody mentioned Walter Smith and that is just silly talk as he is retired and don't see us dragging him out of retirement at this point to be fair.
Have to agree with a guy a couple of posts up, Souness as much as a great midfield general that he was he hasn't got the best record in management. Inherits a quality Liverpool side, and makes a balls of it. Had some good success in Scotland with Rangers, but never really done much at all in the premiership, still I think he would be doing a wee bit better than Owen Coyle is right now, for sure he would know how to organise the midfield properly.
Its not the best of times to be looking for a new manager because decent and available managers are very thin on the ground. You might laugh but David O'Leary hasn't been mentioned at all and I don't know if he would come to Bolton but he's one of the few available decent managers around. I would love Mark Hughes but I just don't see it at all.

Re: Who can save us ??
I don't think so. On the same day he resigned (presumably therefore eschewing any claims for dismissal compensation) it was also announced that Forest owner Nigel Doughty would step down as chairman at the end of the season. Maybe that's ringing the wrong bell in the LK cranium?Lord Kangana wrote:Do Forest have any claim on him [Steve McClaren] for the remainder of the season though?
For the record, I don't think he's ideal, but he may be the best we can get in our situation, unless we could persuade Mark Hughes to come in with a release clause. Even then, that may well be cause for further disruption as he brings in staff, players etc only to leg it in the summer. It's certainly not stability.
Office Cardiff fan suggested Dave Jones...

It's a thinker of a suggestion, innit? Not jump-out-the-bath eureka but not outright-dismissal nonsense. He'd presumably be overjoyed to have a crack as well, so ticks that potentially tricky box.Lord Kangana wrote:Dave Jones is not a bad shout at all.
Apparently threw his hat in the ring for the Norn Iron job and may be interviewed for it this week, although the smart money seems to be on yer man from Shamrock.

Can't say I'm massively keen on Jones, but as you say beggars can't be choosers. Quite how he managed not to take Cardiff up is beyond me though....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:It's a thinker of a suggestion, innit? Not jump-out-the-bath eureka but not outright-dismissal nonsense. McClaren would be preferable IMO.
As would possibly Billy Davies, only because he is a disciplinarian which I feel we may need.
Depends though, I'd offer someone like Davies a 6 month deal, with an extension if you keep us up....
Re: Who can save us ??
Yeah, lets appoint proven shite instead. How did that go last time? At least there's a fecking chance someone unproven might prove to be good. Hughes/McLaren........Some young f*cker with a plan. Who is this years Paul Lambert?BwfcDan wrote:Yes, we're bottom of the league and cant win for toffee. Dave Jones was my choice last time round. Less enthused now, but certainly not against. Not proven shite for a start.

Dave Jones, Mclaren, Hughes, even Paul Jewell these are the kinds of names we will be looking at
'up and coming' wont fit the bill - for a start if you were up and coming you wouldn't want to embroil yourself in this mess - far better riding a wave somewhere else
Anyway he hasn't gone today so we've another week. next weekend he will be officially worse than megson so maybe that will trigger it.

Re: Who can save us ??
Here's a thought in the baby/bathwater mold................
Why not keep Coyle here to let him build and give him the opportunity to run a longer term project, but in the short term appoint a defensive coach to work with our back 4 and defensive midfielders. What's Tony Adams doing these days?? Gudni??
Our main problem is that we are shipping goals like there's no tomorrow and we stand to lose the only half decent defensive player we have in 4 weeks or less. I still think we're doomed with a capital D, but we need someone in who can make us play like a unit at the back and work with whoever comes in to replace GC.

Tony Adams? Again? Seriously? Bloke's madder than a box of frogs. A thick piss-head who thinks he is a visionary. He'd have them all listening to Magritte and reading Beethoven, Dell Boy style. Ce qui ose.

Got watching the double bill on BBC on my days off (that and the Sunday morning OC my retro TV viewing for the week-I can't have good taste in everything!), and I think the main reason for which I am most thankful I did French is being able to understand what Dell Boy actually says. Such brilliant writing. Tony Adams is like what Rodney would be like if he'd been dropped on his head.

Seems the only logical option if it's true that it will cost too much to consider sacking him - but would that not be grounds for constructive dismissal if someone is imposed on him?officer_dibble wrote:I preferred the generals suggestion from before - get him some experienced help in
