No point having a defensive coach if the manager doesn't believe in defensive organisation.
People talk about long term projects, but what projects will we be able to do when we lose 40 odd million quid?

And your solution is to risk making that 50? 60?
Thats the gamble.
Thats the gamble.

But by that argument we'd have been better off keeping Megson. Would have saved the money to pay him and his back room team off and to hire Coyle and his plus compensation.Lord Kangana wrote:And your solution is to risk making that 50? 60?

And Megson had a decent enough record of promoting teams.
So if it was all about conserving money that was the smart play.
We've been playing the premiership or bust gamble for too long now to suddenly give up!

Megson spent money like water, so thats a spurious argument.
They needed a cheaper option who knew the constraints that the previous profligacy had enforced. Coincidentaly one who has a better record at getting teams promoted than Megson.
I'm sure we've already had the stats on how much the debt increased between summers 2007 and 10. It would be interesting to see where its gone these last 18 months.

Depends how you define a better record...Coyles only had one stab at it....Megson did it twice, once with a relegated club.Lord Kangana wrote:Megson spent money like water, so thats a spurious argument.

At the fans forum Gartside said there would be a considerable loss this year, down from last financial year but still a big loss.
If Coyle was seen as being able to operate better on lower budgets then he has completely failed. His buys have not been good, especially his cash buys. None have made a big enough impact if you are running it on a budget.
I suspect he was brought in to encourage youth, and no doubt long term that's the right thing to do and something he's clearly good at, but as ever there is a juggling act and he hasn't kept the first team ball in the air long enough, to buy the time needed.

Re: Who can save us ??
Wouldnt mind us going in for Simon Grayson from Leeds. Done very well with a club thats sold each of their best players year on year and done very little (if anything) to replace em. Only problems wud be buying him out of his contract and the fact he has no premier league experience is a bit of a punt.

Re: Who can save us ??
Hmm your probably right given current circumstamces. But say Leeds dont get promoted this year, and another player is potentially shipped out, than it could prove the straw that broke the camels back. Too late for us like.
Re: Who can save us ??
Aye- Leeds fan. Both in the same division next year!

Not convinced on Grayson either.
Feel we need some experience and know how.
Grayson is learning like Coyle.

The more I think about it the more I like the sound of Walter Smith, either in advisory role or as full time manager in the unlikely event Coyle is sacked. I'd definitely go for someone with experience rather than a young manager from the lower divisions.

The upcoming Blackburn game is crunch time IMO if we lose that and Coyle is still here then he is a dead cert to be here for the season at least..

If it comes to it for a short term fix, to see if we can get out of this mess, I'd even say Peter Reid with his knowledge wouldn't be a terrible choice. Might get some fight going at least.
I stress as a long term appointment to drive the club forwards then absolutely not, but for 6 months? He did it at Leeds 5 years or so ago and got em out of it IIRC that season!

How he has managed to lose so many games is beyond me - you'd struggle to do worse if you tried

Re: Who can save us ??
We do need someone with premier league experience, with a decent track record. I'm getting pissed off with this lay down and die attitude. We have never been has soft as this in the premier league we need to be fighting for every ball, and not letting opposition defenders run 60 yards with it so that they are on the edge of our box creating goal scoring opportunities, this can be prevented its not rocket science. I'm still sticking with Souness has my no1 choice, people seem to forget that he won the league cup at blackburn so isnt the worst manager around like some say on this forum. Stuart Pearce would do a good job here but doubt he would leave his england duties.

Souness? When did he last work as a manager? How old is he? Does he want a job? Not sure about that one.
Also, he came number one in the guardian's worst football managers ever in 2008.
