Nicely twisted GG, I didn't. I actually worked in a totally mixed male/female environ and most of the women ( but not all, just like the men) were great.Gooner Girl wrote:As you say Tango, yours was a one off experience so because it was, you shouldnt generalise

I didn't twist it, you chose to point out an instance when you fell out with a women at work as if that makes all women emotional and highly strung in the work environment. That may not be what you MEANT, but to me thats how it came across - perhaps i'm just a touchy emotional highly strung women though, eh?!TANGODANCER wrote:Nicely twisted GG, I didn't. Actually a lot seem to be complete utter cows at times who you cannot tell to feck off like when a bloke gets on your wick or risk being hauled over the coals!!! Just saying like. Oh and why do woman find the need to constantly wander off for a natter? more so when anything heavy appears on the agenda?Gooner Girl wrote:I didn't twist it, you chose to point out an instance when you fell out with a women at work as if that makes all women emotional and highly strung in the work environment. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Actually, Hoboh, I've never once felt the need nor had the incling to tell any of my female colleagues to " 'feck off' like when a bloke's got on my wick" regardless of the consequences which, happen to be the same as for verbally abusing a male colleague. Or at least they do here. Also, look up 'The Bradford Factor' - that doesn't care what gender you are, swing the lead and you'll get found out.Hoboh wrote:Actually a lot seem to be complete utter cows at times who you cannot tell to feck off like when a bloke gets on your wick or risk being hauled over the coals!!!
Are you working on that wheel thingy with Tango?

This is fun
.
We had this debate in class the other day, in the context of EU equality laws. Is in acceptable for women to be able to demand female midwives? I was in the minority saying it wasn't. As it stands I think they're given the option, but I don't know what happens if they ask for a female and there aren't any available. I don't think it is an issue currently as the ratio of male:female midwives is such that there is no problem. The point I was making is that such policy could lead to a point where a fully qualified competent male was refused for a job on account of his sex. This is only acceptable if it is a genuine occupational requirement, and they argued that women feeling uncomfortable around male midwives met this criteria. I, and one other guy, argued that, frankly, is bollocks.
Pin out, drop bomb, RUN!

Thing is people assume equality is about making sure everyone is treated equally.Prufrock wrote:This is fun.

It's not.
It's about recognising everyone's differences and ensuring that those are respected and within those boundaries and differences everyone is treated fairly.
So for example a Muslim woman giving birth, may for religious reasons choose a female midwife, and it would be unfair to refuse her, as the request would be reasonable and taking reasonable cultural differences into account. So therefore IMO you were wrong Pru!

Get your dates right Bruce. The wheel wasn't invented till at least two years later.Bruce Rioja wrote: Actually, Hoboh, I've never once felt the need nor had the incling to tell any of my female colleagues to " 'feck off' like when a bloke's got on my wick" regardless of the consequences which, happen to be the same as for verbally abusing a male colleague. By the way, how many places have you actually worked at, just as a matter of interest? If the bold bit's true, then your either very amiable or very fortunate.

Plenty of male gynaecologists about, why are male midwives an issue?!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
my missus knew the wife of her consultant gynaecologist socially, which meant that she occasionally met him with her pants on - and he always looked awkward making chit-chat with her at a party... as if he didn't know where to look...
(she also claims he did a tatty job on the epesiotomy stitching - which she mentioned once at a New Year party in front of his missus - causing him to spill his large glass of red wine!)
