Re: Holden in away end
Allardyce could pick a centre half
But then he could convert em as well - how much use did we get out of Micky Whitlow and Simon Charlton there! Now we have a 6'6 monster with all the centre half attributes and we cant get a performance to rival those two fullbacks!

Did it the other way around too. Campo came over and was 'wrong' at CH & he then re-invented the position 'just in front of the back four'.officer_dibble wrote:Allardyce could pick a centre half

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Did that with Faye too, and I seem to remember somebody doing it with Mark Fish, not entirely sure if it was Allardyce mind.bobo the clown wrote:Did it the other way around too. Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh left before Allardyce got here I thought, so Colin Todd
And, I don't remember him playing midfield! Andy Todd did I think, but he was shite there. Couldn't catch people to punch them.

Todd signed Fish, who IMO always looked far better than he actually was.
Re: Holden in away end
I thought Fish left after Allardyce's first season along with Jensen and Gudjohnsen, I could be wrong though.officer_dibble wrote:Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh left before Allardyce got here I thought, so Colin Todd

Re: Holden in away end
Fish was a brilliant player, who relied far too much on his recovery pace and always had one-mistake-a-match in him.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Little bit contradictory there...Lord Kangana wrote:Fish was a brilliant player, who relied far too much on his recovery pace and always had one-mistake-a-match in him.
Not very keen on one-mistake a match centre halves!

A brillaint footballer player isn't the same as a brilliant centre half. You need to read more carefully.

Sorry I knew what you meant and yes I agree.Lord Kangana wrote:A brillaint footballer player isn't the same as a brilliant centre half. You need to read more carefully.
Well perhaps very good as opposed to brilliant...
Not the sort of centre half I'd choose though.

Though the "one fish in Grimsby" chant takes some beating....

Well yes. One tackle doth not a centre half make. Though.

Indeed, we shall never forget Gerald Cid. And Jon-Gope Fenepej. And, of course, Ndiwa Lord Kangana...officer_dibble wrote:Allardyce could pick a centre half
Hierro was also shocking at centre-back - remember the bumming at Carrow Road? - before Sam's switcharoo to playing him as a deep regista (not that amazing a jump in Nando's case, he'd played there lots for Madrid & Spain)

Campo too was shocking at CB. Rahdi Jaidi anyone? Or maybe Lubomor Michalik?

Always said Jaidi was good for 15-20 goals a season... Half at each end...Bruce Rioja wrote:Campo too was shocking at CB. Rahdi Jaidi anyone? Or maybe Lubomor Michalik?
