Re: Time to go
Aye, we lost our shape a bit mid-way through the second half, with players getting pulled out of position. But those 2 in the centre stayed strong. NRC was my man of the match by some way.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:still think we need a third in there though. 2nd half tonight we lost any semblance of midfield control- (did Muamba pick up a knock?). perhaps Tuncay dropping off might help...

Re: Time to go
It was always going to be Fred Karno's in the second half and I knew we'd let at least 4 in.
But we didn't.
Hurrah!
Up until last night I'd have said win-lose or that other thing both sides were going down but it's amazing what a win can do and now I'm looking at the teams above us thinking if we......'
Let's keep our foot on the pedal (something we've never done in our puff) and see if we can lift ourselves above the threashold of doom.
Here's one for you though. After the game 5live news came on so I switched to Radio Manchester. I never knew it joined Radio Lancashire but by Christ it's not hard to see why Local Radio is struggling.
Betwen playing Paul Young, Phil Colins and Choral hymns (the fans favourite!) the 'presenter' kept saying that a win for Bolton was 'no good for either club'. In what way could a win be classed as 'not good'.
I had to turn off when he said 'later we'll be talking to a Wurzel'
A-haaaaaaaa!

Re: Time to go
Good of you to say so, CL. And entirely correct. Let's hope it's not a one-off, in result or box-ticking. We'll take a ropy nervous couldalost shouldalost one-goal win as the springboard. Actually I'd take them from here till Easter if you don't mind.CAPSLOCK wrote:Well, I'm fcuking made up tonight
Still far from convinced - still some glaring weaknesses but some big ticks tonight
Fcuking off Davies
A bit of pace up top
Alonso was very good
Petrov was better
NRC and Muamba...immense
Rovers are very weak and we nearly didn't win - granted we 'nearly' won by 6, but we didn't
Lots of improvement required, but if we can use it as a starting point, there may be life in us yet
Re: Time to go
i'm still unsure.
proper.
i'm kinda thinking they should sack him anyway. just off whats gone before. a 'turnaround' victory every 10 games doesnt mend the problem. they were still kinda crap and blackburn were crap.
i hope to christ its put right now as the fixtures coming up are hard.
shit

They can't sack him. They won't sack him. We shouldn't sack him.
What's the point of giving a manager a year and then binning him at the first sign of trouble.
We're not City.
Or Chelsea.
There's no body out there capable of waving a magic wand. We might as well give Coyle the chance.
I'm not saying he's the bee's balls but he's what we've got.

They can, I think they won't too, we probably should.
You don't have to be City or Chelsea to do this. Even Preston North End have managed it recently.
Coyle currently has the chance, he's largely not taking it.

Re: Time to go
Coyle has been naive principled and a slow learner in the manner he's set the team up this season.Principled in so much as he's stuck with a failing system and simply switched the bodies about in that failing system which creates abn impression of clueless panic.Occasionally he's also let the pressure get to him and appeared to start blaming individuals which doesnt exactly fit the greatr man manager tag.
However look at the value of what we spent compared to others and what we have out injured and I cant see any manager who would come here doing a lot better. The Blackburn game could be a turning point.Getting Rickets and later Holden back will lift the team.Even if we went down I would suggest we stick with Coyle at least until this time next year as I believe he can create an entertaining team capable of getting straight back up.
I wouldnt want to see anything like whats going down at blackburn. Blackburn Bolton and Wigan are small budget teams trying to compete in a big budget league and play decent football at the same time. Its a nigh impossible ask given the resources of the majority of opponents.
We can get ahead of Blackburn Wigan Wolves and one or two of the newly promoted teams who are likely to hit freefall anytime now but given the club resources I think you can expect a perennial relegation battle. personally i wouldnt mind seeing us in the championship for a year as it would be more fun than the mismatches we take part in for 3/4 of the season in the premiership.

Re: Time to go
Whilst agreeing in the main with all that, going down is a frightening prospect. We have a huge debt to one man and we'd lose the Premiership revenue, attendences would inevitably fall and we'd most likely lose some of our best players. It's a possibility, even a probablilty for consideration, but its a disaster in the making if it happens. We have to try and stay up. We are indeed small fish in a pond full of sharks growing bigger by the week. If we went down we'd need money for players even if we got back in one season. Not sure exactly where that's going to come from. Eventually a super league will evolve from it all and we won't be in it anyway. Money has taken away any common denominator in football.

Re: Time to go
I can see how the financial side is a worry but then it could also be said that in trying to compete beyond our financial means that financial side can only get worse. The big money clubs have created a huge and unsustainable divide and I look forward to the day when they **** off and go play with each other every week. Theyre not even financially viable themselves at present and their spending is having a massive knock on effect on smaller clubs trying to compete. It makes for a very dull league.
Bolton nearly went down the pan in the 80s but survived and rebuilt. At the end of the day you follow the team regardless of the level theyre playing at and the highs and lows are the same.I had more fun following the whites in division 3 and 4 than I would get from an expensive day out at the reebock watching a more expensive team pull us apart.I'd love to see the teams not in the big six form a breakaway league linked with the championship.Without a sugardaddy no other club will break into the top 6 now so it's no longer a genuine competition.
If the club are in the mire financially then relegated or not they will need to address it meaning they are even less able to compete financially and will eventiually go down even if they survive this season. Clubs like Wigan and Blackburn are in a similar situation. From what I can see Keane and Martinez, like Coyle are decent managers trying to do a job which is becoming impossible and unfortunately some fans seem to expect the impossible.
Mind you I am proud of the fact that wanderers fans are still getting behind the team and the manager, the dingles are a disgrace and you can only wonder what the long term fans who followed Blackburn before the Walker millions made them into something they are not make of it all.I'd imagine they're embarrassed.

Re: Time to go
I imagine they all said that about us while they had Allardyce and we had Meggo.
As for the beating teams in Div 4, I bet Yeovil would have something to say about us rocking up with our 15k a week and pinching their best players. Has always been about money, just the ways of measuring it, and the margins between have got bigger.

Its shocking and very sad that our 'so called' chairman & owner are just burying their heads in the sand, and allowing this fcuking debacle to continue - we are fast becoming the laughing stock of the league (and certainly will be when b/burn beat us easily on TV on Tues)

Businesswoman of the year.
Re: Time to go
According to PT, our club has been the lauging stock for the (insert you own figure here) last number of years.
Re: Time to go
ianmoores lc - You are absolutely spot on. If we stay up, we either get into more debt to compete or we go down as we rein in the finances. To me it says it all that we have been in the Prem nearly ten years and the debt has almost trebled. It is not sustainable and to try and stay in the Prem is unrealistic for a club the size of ours the way things are at the moment. Clubs like Stoke and Sunderland have spent barrow loads of cash to achieve mediocrity - they will probably end up in financial meltdown as well. City have thrown money at it to buy their admittedly successful team and posted huge losses - the whole thing is crazy.
We are essentially in a Catch 22 situation - we can't afford to stay up and we can't afford to go down. No wonder PG wanted a two tiered Premier League - I'm sure he saw us in the second tier of that, benefitting more from TV cash than we would in the Championship, but not having to spend the same amounts of money just to survive.
Where it goes from here, I just don't know. Eventual relegation seems an inevitability unless we get taken over by some foreign benefactor (would we want that?). That would mean we couldn't service the level of debt, but administration wouldn't make any sense for ED. He could give the club a payment holiday or restructure the debt, but as others have said, the bottom line is that he isn't going to see most of his money again.
I'm just sad that football has been ruined by money (although some clubs have always been richer than others) and just wish it could roll back 30 years for the unpredictability there was back then and the fact that clubs of more moderate means always had their chance to make an impact e.g. Ipswich late 70s, early 80s. That won't stop me being hoarse by 5p.m. on Boxing Day, though. COYWM!

Amen.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
