New Year...
I've never made much of a thing of new year's eve...
tonight it will be a few drinks - and a games night with the family up to midnight when we will gather around the grandfather clock (with a nice westminster chime) and wait for the bongs before toasting the new year, singing Auld Lang Syne and opening front door to wave at neighbours...
does anyone have big or small plans - if so, what?

Re: New Year...
Last 2 years I've been in bed before midnight (those 5am starts are a killer). This year I might brave staying up and have a beverage of some description

Working again.

Best night of the year for tips.
Normally two of us behind the bar, me and mate, we have a laugh
Don't buy a drink all night
Still end up getting lashed, and would be there anyway.
-
Fecking fancy dress.
Bloody part time drinkers.
Folk who order weird shit that takes 10 mins to make when there's a full bar 'coz it's Christmas'.
That we have to stay about 5 or 6 drinks behind the customers so 'feel' sober while they talk shit at 4 in the morning.

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Was meant to be at a bunfight at my former next door neighbours, but just had a call to say it's off due to flu

Re: New Year...
I'd just like to say that at our local gaff, the bar staff will probably not be 5/6 drinks behind the locals. They're way more likely to order some weird shit in a "fishbowl" whilst attired in fancy dress, and they're certainly more part time than most of the regulars.Prufrock wrote:Working again.

I prefer NYE to Christmas Eve (very rarely go out Christmas Eve). Christmas Eve is for the kids, NYE for the grown-ups.
Re: New Year...
New Years Eve always comes across as hugely disappointing. The build-up, the countdown and then oh well another year over with. Just an anti-climax. I think it is built-up to be something it cannot ever live up to be.
Bradshaw Cricket Club for me tonight. Family fun - Games, disco, buffet, fireworks. Roll on tomorrow.
But I am probably the most miserable man in Bolton.

Re: New Year...
Quiet night in with family, venison is currently marinading nicely in the fridge, Jools Holland and bed by half 12 at latest with a bit of luck.
It's always been an anti climax for me up until last year when we visited friends in Garmisch Partenkirchen. Snow, Oompa bands, fuehrzangenbohle, fireworks. Don't think I'll ever beat that now

Re: New Year...
2012 arrived with me in bed reading and keeping a rather desultory eye on the television which was broadcasting the fireworks in Sydney. Whilst it's a colourful display, watching it on the 'box' is like having a non-alcoholic wine and expecting more from it. In a word, insipid.
Still 'n all, a Happy New Year to all on this forum. Given that we're back at the bottom again this could be a more interesting year than was 2011. Cheers!

Re: New Year...
I have to say that the fireworks in London were one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. 30 tons of pyrotechnics apparently. Incredible to watch, absolutely incredible.
