Re: Onwards and Upwards Everton vs Bolton (Match thread)
now we've tasted the pleasure of the 1-1 draw we'll want the same again.
Two draws on the trot. The first time this season we've managed two league games without defeat. We'll then be on a run.

If only...A well organised Everton means we are unlikely to score,a disorganised Bolton means they are likely to score. The only bright side is they arent prolific so 2 0 would be about par.We never win at everton even when we have a decent side. Its just one of them places.

We will not repeat that though. Probably ever.

We will find inspiration from a new, settled back 4, who rediscover their resilience and fighting qualities. Despite Everton's 32 chances on target, we keep a clean sheet, and nick a goal at the other end courtesy of an own goal by Jagielka from Petrov's bullet-cross.

Strained his jaw maybe after doing a very passable version of Paul Robinson as he blamed everyone but himself for his increasingly common errors ??thebish wrote:Bruce could have told you that!Salford Trotter wrote:just had a text to say jussi is doubtful
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Onwards and Upwards Everton vs Bolton (Match thread)
some encouraging stats...
There have been exactly two goals scored in each of the last four Premier League meetings between Bolton and Everton.
There have been red cards in three of the last four matches between Bolton and Everton.
Bolton have failed to score in five of their last eight Premier League meetings with the Toffees.
Bolton have kept just one clean sheet in their last 35 Premier League away games.
Since returning to the PL in 2001, Bolton have only once managed to win their opening league game of the new year.

This is a must-win.
(I have copied this phrase to save time in the future).
Seriously tough; this is, despite our terrible record there, one of January's easiest games on paper. Nothing but a win will do.
My prediction? 2-0 Everton.

Haven't Everton scored the majority of there goals in the last ten minutes this season? We only turn up for the first 70 (not withstanding any 'minutes of madness') so I guess we have to be 4 or 5-0 up by then to get any sort of result

There's them fine margins again...YtarmyYtarmy wrote:Went to the corresponding fixture last year when we threw away 2 points when Chungy should of put it in Row Z, and they scored a wonder goal. A draw was probably a fair result on that night as we were under the cosh at the end, and probably got our goal against the run of play.
I have hope in my heart but a brain in my head, and in the office prediction league I've gone for a home win. I'd love to be wrong, and Everton are still an awful team, but once again they're developing the knack of grinding out results, and we're too easily ground down.
Only one of Everton's last 11 games has finished with more than a one-goal margin. Yep, at ours.

If this hadn't been an evening kickoff I'd have gone. No idea why I was considering it.
Ricketts will get sent off then Robbo will come on. Tim Cahill will start scoring again, aided by Landon Donovan who'll get a hatrick.

Re: Onwards and Upwards Everton vs Bolton (Match thread)
I've gone for a 3-0 trashing by Everton. Obviously I want us to win but common sense tells me we haven't got much of a chance.
Our strikers all need a rocket up their arses or something, everytime Petrov does all the hard work of running up the wing and putting in a cross there's no one there to collect and that's one of our biggest faults right now.

Yep..
Our goalscorer plays in the hole and a player who's scared of getting into the box for fear of missing is our furthest man forward.
Bit poo really ain't it.

It seems so. But then, if they switched and our deadly-but-dawdly leading scorer played in advance of the only striker with the capacity (if not always the inclination) to stretch defences, the opponents would be able to play so high up the pitch they could shake hands with Jussi.boltonboris wrote:Yep..
