Unsavoury fans
I was at the Macclesfield game with a Macc Town supporting fan, and all in all we had a great day. Met fans of both teams, and had good banter with them all.
After the game we went back to a pub to meet up with a guy we had met earlier in the day. We were once again embroiled in some chat when a group of 6 or 7 Bolton fans caught our attention by loudly singing songs about Munich.
When one of my mates was at the bar, and another in the loo, they started shouting pretty general abuse at me (having wrongly concluded I was a Macc fan, since the 2 folks I was with were sporting those colours. I had a jumper over my shirt having sat in the home section for the game)
Needless to say I let the 'you're Macclesfied scum'-type comments go by. No big deal - a few pints and I guess this can be classed as banter. One guy in particular, however, was insistent and noticeable more aggressive, but again I just didn't take him on.
15 mins passed or so, and one of my mates got into a conversation with them. Innocently enough - just about the game, and since he was stood pretty close by. It took all of 20 seconds for comments such as 'yes you're a Macc fan, but at least you're a white, anglo-saxon' and 'Oh- you live in London. No white folk left down there. That's why it's such a sh*thhole' to start coming out.
Now, I am not for a second claiming this is only a Bolton problem. It is quite obviously not. But in that pub, wearing the same shirt as these idiots, I genuinely didn't know what to do. There were 2 kids among their number, listening to the plane crash chants and the overtly racist 'banter', and it was very uncomfortable indeed.
A bit of digging suggests this particular group no longer attend games at the Reebok (I wonder why), and the landlord seemed to know who they were, but felt the best approach was to hope they passed on peacefully.
Mods, feel free to move this to "Other Football" if you wish, since it would be wrong to state this is a Bolton problem. However, I am keen to hear if Bolton fans have encountered this; are (for whatever reason) involved with this type of 'fan'; and also what you would have done in my situation.
It was an unpleasant half an hour out of a brilliant weekend. But since it was a notable thing that happened, involving Bolton fans at a Bolton game, I thought I'd see what you fellow Boltonian fans make of it.

Re: Unsavoury fans
How come a Macc landlord knew some Bolton fans?
I'm not arsed about folk singing Munich songs (tar and feather me if you must) though I wouldn't do it
We do have more than our fair share of plankton, the majority of the slackjawed seemingly from Farnworth, Walkden and the Hultons
Shame, really, but hey, it's football, not the ballet

Re: Unsavoury fans
They're not fans, just dxckheads and the breed's been around as long as I can remember. Most of them wouldn't have been born when Munich happened and racism chants and remarks today only earmarks how out of tune they are with the world.

They'd been told by the police about a group, according to the one we spoke to.CAPSLOCK wrote:How come a Macc landlord knew some Bolton fans?

Was one of them wearing flip flops by any chance?

Not that I noticed. Although I will probably steer clear of describing any of them personally.boltonboris wrote:Was one of them wearing flip flops by any chance?

Re: Unsavoury fans
Always a few no matter where you go. About 4 or 5 mornons were chanting 'EDL' and 'Heil heil' on the coaches back from the West Brom game but it is always a minority and usually those who are rightly banned from the 'Bok. However I did end up going to the Leeds/Man U game earlier in the season and it was more or less 1000+ Leeds lot joining in the Munich chants one way and the majority of the scummers responding with Istandbul chants and even the oddbanner or two. Everytime I go to a Bolton game these days I count myself lucky we're a sensible lot on the whole!
Re: Unsavoury fans
Our chants bother me less because their offensive, more because they're shit. We want to go home because Macc is a shithole, we want to stay here because Bolton is a shithole, Klasnic can rape who he wants, Alonso's driving is shit, oh look our shoes are off.
The general impression I get from most of our fans is more that they're thick rather than malicious though. I don't think we have any more dickheads than any other club.

"Macclesfield's lovely, I wanna stay here" raised a smile TBH

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Unsavoury fans
I cringe every time there's a Bolton fan on a radio phone-in. There's no shortage of intelligent Bolton fans but fook me it seems like someone left the phone at the bottom of the barrell.Tombwfc wrote:
