Re: Twitter Whites
I quat Facebook because I was sick of all the tiresome 'newsfeeds' about eating pies and vomiting kids.Lord Kangana wrote:What about it am I meant to get?
And kids vomiting up pie.
Anyway I told my mate about my disdain for social networking' but he assured me that Twitter was 'different'.
Well it isn't.
It's the same people spewking out their every vapid thought and deed in a desperate stab at self-promotion attention seeking.
I do not give a flying monkey's what Stephen Fry, Britney Spears, SKD or Underwaterhedgehog1991 thinks about anything.
The fact that Twitter is now becoming short hand for 'news' depresses me no end.
The other day someone asked if I could do something for them. 'What's your email address' I said 'Oh it's on our Facebook page. 'Like' us and you'll get all the info.' When I told her I wasn't on FB I could hear the expression on her face.
In short, in less than 140 characters Twitter - is balls.

Re: Twitter Whites
Former football agent Peter Harrison making all sorts of threat about Phil Gartside, Mark Curtis, Sam Allardyce and now Phil Brown and Twitcher. He has been going on for months about a book and TV programme that will be coming out. Nasty, bitter and twisted man.
Why has no one sued him yet?

There is no way that account is real surely? It reads like a 15 year old is writing it....malcd1 wrote:Former football agent Peter Harrison making all sorts of threat about Phil Gartside, Mark Curtis, Sam Allardyce and now Phil Brown and Twitcher. It's real alright - he tweets his kids. Then he gets pissed and goes off on one.

Re: Twitter Whites
It is real alright and Harrison is one bitter prick. His main gripe is over the Carroll transfer to Liverpool. He was cut-out at the last minute by Mark Curtis who he says stabbed him in the back. After he took him to court and lost, he is going for Curtis and is using his close contact with Phil and Sam to get even.BWFC_Insane wrote:There is no way that account is real surely? Harrison thinks he is some whiter than white ex-football agent and not some parasitic scumbag only interested in himself.
This could get really messy if there is any substance in what he he accusing Gartside of doing. I just really hope there is nothing in it as it would be very bad for BWFC.

If I remember rightly they didn't sue after that Panorama programme. Looked dodgy as fook to me.malcd1 wrote:Former football agent Peter Harrison making all sorts of threat about Phil Gartside, Mark Curtis, Sam Allardyce and now Phil Brown and Twitcher. The only person who could have "sued" that Panorama program was Allardyce himself, possibly his son.Dr.Karl wrote:If I remember rightly they didn't sue after that Panorama programme. Re: Twitter Whites
The switch in onus makes suing for defamation eaiser. All you have to prove for defamation is that the words are defamatory (either they lower you in the eyes of right thinking people, cause you to be shunned, or subject you to hatred/vitriol/abuse), not a high threshold, the first being the easiest; that they refer to you (usually a formality); and, that they are published (which only means communicted to a third person). Twitter is clearly a permanent medium, and so it would be libel, not slander, for which you don't even have to suffer any loss. Having satisfied this very low requirements, it is then up to the defendant to prove one of the defences such as justification (it's true), fair comment, or qualified priveledge.
I haven't read Harrison's 'tweets', but it seems unlikely he'd have any defence other than justification. That doesn't mean it's true though. I reckon you're comments re:Harrison being broke are nearest the mark. Is it worth taking the time and money to go through the courts, risk any confidential information (not neccesarily of illegality, but sensitive in a business sense) coming out through the courts all to win nominal damages from a guy who everyone already thinks is a bitter crook?

Re: Twitter Whites
All seems correct to me, Pru – although I have to pass on the I-V-I, E-G-E mnemonic for the spelling of 'privilege', especially if you're to be using it in a technical capacity: I care for your reputationPrufrock wrote:The switch in onus makes suing for defamation eaiser. Your final sentence (basically "Is it worth it?") reminds me of the two fundamental questions a journalist/publisher must ask if they think they might be libelling. "Can they sue?" is the most important but a positive answer can be overridden by a confident negative to "will they sue?" - and as you surmise, it's very possible that BWFC would rather not have any evidence paraded through the courts. Look at how much front-page fun The Sun is having with the allegations brought in the court case against Harry Redknapp - one of their own columnists.
Re: Twitter Whites
I have absolutely no idea what I was thinking with 'priveledge'. I blame spell-checker. Far too reliant on those things.

Then you should have checked for red underlining since the TW spellchecker rejects both priveledge and Prufrock.Prufrock wrote:I have absolutely no idea what I was thinking with 'priveledge'. I blame spell-checker. Far too reliant on those things.
