i admire your loyalty to the present squad but still believe it's a tad misplaced/complacent.
we had a good win yesterday (btw i predicted we would and that we would beat Everton) but we could very easily go on a 5-6 match utter gash, energy-less, organisation-less, spineless run of defeats. we are that inconsistent.
if potentially better players become available (not a gimme that) or the two from the US are deemed to be better than what we have then they should go straight in.
we have lost too many points this season by sticking to the old guard (e.g. Klasnic,SKD,Robbo et all) based on isolated good results -Wigan Stoke for instance

It isn't loyalty to the present squad LTSOFN, it's what I saw yesterday: Effort, comittment, organisation - the things you list above as lacking in previous games- and a renewed energy and confidence about the side. I'm as eager as the next man to see new talent coming in,but to bang them straight in means taking somebody out. We changed a losing side and got a winning one, but more importantly,we changed our methods and it worked well. Three of our next five games are Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City. Do we really want to experiment with those? After them, hopefully, our chances of points will be much more realistic, at least in principle.

That's all well and good but say Wheater gets injured who comes in? Same with Ricketts or NRC or Muamba etc...

That piece of play from Andy in the second half, from Downing's cutback was sublime. He faked to shoot by taking a massive clod-hopping wallop of the ball with his left foot then deftly flicked it with his right, unfortunately the rest of our team just weren't on his wavelength (few are) and the ball dribbled away back into Bolton possession. In the hands of a lesser player, Messi for example, that moment would've looked amateurish but Andy pulled it off with the grace and assurance that has characterised his time at Anfield.

I can't believe we got him for just £35 million. Frankly, I'm tempted to go up to Newcastle myself and give them my life savings as well, purely out of gratitude. Truly a joy to behold.

Fabrice Muamba is a top class player. If he's not given any time to actually think about what he's doing, and acts on instinct. As soon as he engages his brain, he forgets everything to do with football. Fortunately, very often, he has to rely on instinct, which is why he's one of my favourite players.

Fabrice Muamba is a top class player. If he's not given any time to actually think about what he's doing, and acts on instinct. As soon as he engages his brain, he forgets everything to do with football. Fortunately, very often, he has to rely on instinct, which is why he's one of my favourite players.

Fab is also one of my favourites, always gives 100%, leave him to do what he does best, breaks up play and give the simple ball, Gerrard hardly in game yesterday, mainly down to Fab. Don't expect alot of creativity from him, but getting up and down the pitch, being a nuisance and breaking up the opposition play, there's not many better.

One other thing besides what I said during the game. Sparky's game wasn't just about tippy-tapping I the opponents' third; he was also diligent and dedicated defensively, getting back as that third central midfielder. Top lad. Against a good team I would still worry about his suitability in the middle of a 442, but then against a good team I would worry about the suitability of 442. Thankfully it seems the gaffer now agrees, and we look far the better for it. Note how well the midfielders - all of them - integrated with the ever-willing Ngog. It's a far more attacking formation than isolating two blokes up top miles away from the others.

Interesting games coming up. Swansea and Arsenal both play a similar system to ours so it'll be intriguing to see how the sides match up. They're both winnable games, too. Roll on.

Excellent performance and we fully deserved the win. Liverpool were only crap because that is all we allowed them to be.

And that was the first time this season that I thought that we have a chance of escaping relegation.
