Interesting that yer man here picks out those two goals for critique but not the third, and moreover their persistence with the quite laughable zonal marking. I thought Dalglish would have had shot of that shite straight off, but no! If we'd conceded a goal with marking as poor as theirs was on Steinner, then I reckon I wouldn't be the only one on here that'd have been bloody livid.

Or: it's not about the lone striker but the supporting midfielders. Like we've been saying.

Zonal isn't any worse than man to man, stats apparently say it's actually better, but it's just that it's not what the 80s and 90s era pundits used to do.

Not terrible analysis but on our 2nd he doesn't mention Henderson is it? who Reo-Coker charges past to get into the goalscoring position.

Tbf before us they had only conceded 18 goals all season.

But whatever, got bigger battles this season than our reputation in the press.
Pundit watch:

ESPN: John Barnes and Kevin Keegan
BBC MOTD: Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson

Nuff said.
Barnes and Keegan are probably the most uncomfortable duo I have watched as pundits.. Talking about Bolton pre Liverpool game and didn't have a clue. One of many amusing things was calling mark Davies a holding midfielder who doesn't look to get forward in games like coker and Mu.. so ngog needs to find the goals.

Talking about us against man united and blaming Cahill for one of the goals.. Abit harsh IMO when he wasn't even in Manchester.. Never mind on the pitch.

So, badly out of position then !!

John Barnes always looks like he's shitting himself when in front of a camera. He always has done but years on he;'s no better. He should be getting used to it by now, surely. ... or fecked off from there.

But, but, but... he used to be A Famous Player. And therefore we have to listen to his insight, even if there isn't any in a month of Super Sundays. See also Alan Shearer.

I'll stand correcting, but didn't John Barnes (the same one who'd never go for a fifty-fifty ball) spend a fair old time injured and drawing pay for doing f-all?

They had, but Arsenal employ it as well.

Later in his elongated career, yep. Like a fair few before and since, he drew a fat wage from Newcastle for very little visible return. Which is not to say he wasn't a thrillingly brilliant winger in his pomp, but that doesn't make you a brilliant pundit any more than it makes you a successful manager.

Ah, just answered my own question.

Well, he basically said Stevie Me and Adams played like sheep with the botts - a sentiment with which those on here generally agree about that game. It didn't seem that far off the mark to me, Andy.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe editors and writers at The Offside get paid very much, if at all. That might make you feel better.

Ugly aerial pass which Reo Coker awkwardly takes down?

F*ck off.

If it was at the other end due praise would be heaped. No matter its sincerity its an apologist, self indulgent, navel gazing article. We scored more good goals than they did. Here endeth the lesson.

Yeah that lil bit of nonsenical guff aside re. the ugly aerial pass, it was a decent analysis of the goals and of faults we can very easily identify with ourselves.

For both the first two goals the space on liverpools right was as bad if not worse than anything we've afforded down our left all season, which made me chucke at the time. I think for each goal the scorer could have easily slipped it to the left to an unmarked player to eqally finish it off, very rare to have such luxuries !

That article is about as guff as the aforementioned Zonal Marking. I suppose that's what you expect when you get fans to 'analyse' tactical nuances.

A 7 year old with limited footballing knowledge could've covered his 'tactical analysis' and probably as eloquently
"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"

Probably is a 7 year old...he'll already be on disability and making a bit on the side along with his match day 'car supervision' work.
