Also, if what he's saying is true, should we not be seeing past the knee-jerk reaction of 'Megson is a bad man, and he makes me angry' and ask ourselves: why did our chairman interfere with management decisions, and show a lack of ambition when we could have progressed in a cup?

I think that's the bigger issue here.
Because it's clear to most that Megson is talking shit. He's protecting himself because when he rested (some) first team players in Lisbon, it was with a view of Wigan in the next game. He led us to a defeat.

Don't you imagine the conversation was more "we're in the shit, may get relegated and the European games are less important than staying in the Prem, so when push comes to shove you know what your priorities are"

rather than

"make sure you lose" ??

In fact, if he was instructed to lose he even fecked that up initially didn't he !

The biggest issue is ex-manager, has new job .... get on with new job sunshine.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Cos his boss has put 100M into the club and told everyone that it was imperative that we stayed up. Spoke to Gartside in Belgrade he pretty much said that they were playing reserve teams cos Eddie wanted the priority to be staying in the league.

I don't think thats a big issue at all.

It was bloody obvious.

People are given objectives in a job managers of football clubs are no different.

I'm sure Gartside never said "get out of europe" but probably said "prioritise staying up over everything else".

Unless of course he wasn't, as we all suspect, a manager but rather Garty's poodlefaker. He obviously has an agenda designed to deflect from his skill set and the problems lurking on t'other side of the Pennines. 8)
What problems? He's liked there and they are level on points with second place in the hunt for promotion?

And of course he was told to get out of Europe. I already knew that!
There you go, fixed it for you. 8)

Whats he meant to say? He can hardly go on a program about Greater Manchester football and say he only wants to talk about Sheffield Wednesday.

I shan't be listening, I'd suggest those who don't like him talking about us when asked a question, do the same!
'Invited' is the key word there - he hasn't been dragged there kicking and screaming, has he? He could've declined the interview with good grace, but oh no, not that embittered wanker. Of course he hasn't taken part to talk about Sheffield Wednesday!!!!

Yeah but who knows what was "said off the record". Personally I don't really care.

Staying up was what he was brought in to achieve. He did it. Was obvious we had to sacrifice Europe, he should have done it sooner as after beating Atletico Madrid we went on a dismal run that nearly relegated us.

Anyways who listens to radio manchester now anyways?

Not exactly going to get a big audience is it.

Neither will be a dynamic or interesting hour.

Paying attention to what a bitter ex manager says to blow his own trumpet and considering it of any consequences is a bit like, well, it's a bit like putting a tiarra on a shire horse really...

However annoying Megson is, he's STILL not as annoying as people who put an "s" on the end of "anyway".

One of his quotes:

"I like Bolton as a club, but the fans didn't like me. I don't particularly like them either"
"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"

If one makes the assumption that Gartside told Megson to abandon europe whem he first arrived, rather than when we got deeper into the competition, then its quite ironic he failed at that i.e. by winning games and progressing, and very nearly failed to keep us up too.

He did well to keep us up in his first season though, no matter how lucky we were (how exactly did we get 4 points from the Middlesbrough and Spurs away games?), but he was starting to become a liability, spending unsustainable sums of money to attempt to scrape into 17th each year, and we did well to get him out before he destroyed the club. Its annoying he persists in defending himself - he was failing hard at pretty much all aspects of his job by the time he went. Good riddance.

Gartside may have been so pxssed off with him he said " Just get out of Europe" and Megson mis-read it.
