Good to see the 'it's all Gartside's fault' shite-merchants are out again though.

Ex manager who was a dick says chairman said 'get knocked out of europe.

You have two options, either chairman said, LOSE.

Or chairman said stay up at all costs, and manager sacrificed cup to do so (and in fairness, did do so). Then, after subsequently proving himself shit, has absolutely no axe to grind.

Go figure.

You see, this is why it is worth seeing how he saw / sees the situation ... as it shows us what a 100% self-serving & blame making c*nt he is ;
“They made my life really, really difficult. At the moment, poor old Steve Kean at Blackburn . . . they might be having a go at a person, they might be having a go at an entity, like the board, but what they are doing is making life nigh-on impossible for the team.” You really, really think you got 10% of what Steve Kean is getting ? Really ?

Megson even ventured that his own unpopularity on the terraces had also crept into the performances of his players during two years at the helm.

“I used to see it myself at Bolton where they wouldn’t do it consciously, but the players would know that if they got beat it wouldn’t be them who got any criticism, it would be somebody else. ” Now that is special. So the players felt that if they didn't perform it would be turned somehow into being his fault & so cared about it less !! Really ? So it was THEIR fault, not yours and it made matters worse ?? Twunk.
Not so much as a nod to the "maybe I didn't do my bit either, not for one second does he consider that he had any responsibility for it at all. Sure he was given a hard time ... & he was and unfairly to an extent ... but fck, he didn't half live up to the low expectations.

If things were SO bad he should have jacked it in. However, that was never going to happen. Remember, this was the guy who blamed Bolton for his not being able to seek other work because we paid his gardening leave by the month ... so he couldn't look for work till it was all used up.

Aaargh. I'd almost forgotten what a dispicable nice person he was for a moment !!

Not read the whole thread yet but....

Megson has a funny view of his time here. Yes he was certainly not the 'fans choice' for the job. He was struggling at Leicester and had left every single club under a cloud. No one still knows why he left Blackpool.

His odd idea of pragmatism meant that we were entering games not even under the pretence of winning. 2/3rds of the season written off without a ball being kicked.

Crowing about 'his achievement' of leaving while averaging 1pt per game is laughable. Let me add that up quickly, err...1pt x..how many games? Err....it's too complicated...I'm sure we'd have been on for CL glory with those kind of returns.

Talking about chucking the SL match he said he had to '..win the next game against Wigan..which we didsomethingsomething....'

He deliberatley 'swallows' the 'n't' in didn't. A casual listener may think we took Wigan to pieces after throwing away what would have been one of the clubs greatest chances at glory.

However if we are to believe him @pagartside isn't interested in glory he's interested in money.

I imagine him to be like Eugene Krabs - one for the kids there.

I've not seen a response yet from Gartside but it'll be interesting when it comes.

Megson has made a living from getting sacked from clubs for taking them to the arse end of no-where. Finally he's got the job he always wanted. Managing SWFC in division 3.

Good. I hope he's happy.

I can't be rational about this guy but I can be rational about the time he was here.

The football stunk, his attitude stunk and the place stunke when he was there. But that might have been TBBM.

Good riddance.
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

'fraid not ....
Gartside Denies Megson Claims
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has denied claims from former boss Gary Megson, who claims he was told to have the club eliminated from the UEFA Cup.

Megson, who is now in charge at Sheffield Wednesday, received criticism from Wanderers supporters as the club were knocked out of Europe against Sporting Lisbon in March 2008.

The then Bolton manager fielded a weakened side in Lisbon, with the focus on a Premier League trip to Wigan Athletic the following weekend. Megson suggests the reserve side that took to the field in Lisbon was on the orders of Gartside, claims which have been strenuously denied by the Trotters chairman.

Posting on his official Twitter account, Gartside says he has never influenced any manager over their team selection during his time at the club.

"You couldn't make it up but somebody has," Gartside said "As a fan for over 50 years do you honestly think I would (want Bolton to lose)? In over 25 years on the board and 13 as chairman I have never questioned or instructed a manager on team selection."

All this talk is starting to remind me about that time. My brain must have blocked it out but now it's back.

Living in Sheffield I know a lot of Wednesday-ites and they seem happy, so that's awesome. Like someone else said, he's found his level. :)

It seems to me there is a difference between stressing that survival in the premiership has a higher priority than advancing in the UEFA Cup and telling the manager to deliberately lose. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Eddie/Phil suggested the former (as would anyone with an IQ higher than their weight in kilograms), but doubt the latter. However, what Gartside said and what Megson understood could be very different things.

Well, it's fair to point out that the same web site holding that had another article with someone saying "Darren Pratley will become a Premiership star" so mmmmmmmmm ...

I think HWSNBN was misquoted. I think he actually said 'I was told to get out of Bolton'

Megson is a competent manager, certainly very much loved at wednesday, there was a fella on606 today reckons he's the most underrated manager in the country. His biggest problem was his attitude to fans and his negativity. It was like watching a team managed by one of those creatures in harry potter that swirl about sucking the life out of everything.
I assume as a popular ex player his attitude/relationship with wednesday fans is far better, dont know why he still feels the need to moan about Bolton. He should be bigging up his achievements at wednesday and making any points he has to prove by doing a decent job there.

Say what you like he brought in some good players. Knight, Ricketts, Cahill, Lea, Steinnson, Bogdan, Elmander.

Sammy Lee was 'manager' when Bogdan signed.

To add to the Knight comment, Megson didn't sign Bogdam either. Bogdan signed on 1st August 2007 when Little Sam was in charge.

Megson also signed Rasiak, Riga, Shittu, Smolarek, Makukula, Puygrenier. None of which hardly played a game.

But to even things up I would add Mark Davies and Muamba to his better signings. In Muamba's case we probably paid over the top for him but still a decent signing.
