Linked with lots of players in the people today again - but I can't see any of them as being top 'VIP signings' that would go straight into the team, they are all players with potential, can we afford to spent £5M on 'potential'....

Zaha 'could' be very good in a year or so, but could anyone realistically see him going straight into the starting XI ?

Got a lot to learn.

But perhaps a move to us would be ideal for him to progress rather than sitting on a bench somewhere.

Whether we pull it off remains to be seen. Somehow think it will be tricky when palace want double what we can offer.
Isn't he out of contract in the summer ? If I'm right then, given his age, they'll still get some fee but not £5m.

They are just trying ... quite reasonably ... to start an auction.

That said until this week I'd never heard of him
me neither Bobo - looks like we are the only two people in the western world NOT to have personal in-depth knowledge on all the young up-coming lower-league players!

It may come down to how keen the player is to move. As Palace fans suggest it may be a bit of a sideways step given we're fighting to stay up and they're looking at the playoffs and they believe that unlike when they sold Moses they are more solvent and dont have to sell. 6 million max would be fair for both parties if he was in the middle of a contract. If as suggested he's out of contract in the summer 5 million would be well over the odds for a player who could be on a free in 6 months time.

With the money we have we either buy potential which does cost around 5 million or buy players who werent quite good enough for a little less.I'd rather see us buy potential.

I agree with the overall policy of buying younger players with potential, however IMO in this window we need to sign players who will help us stay up - this season

Nor me. "I've seen him destroy teams single handedly." Where have you seen that? Do they televise championship games? I'm not doubting you, I'm genuinely curious.

Swansea yesterday had Wayne Routledge on the wing. Correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't he the subject of intense speculation, rumoured £10 million bids and 'The Next Best Thing' ten years ago for Palace?? And where has he been since?? For me, Zaha is a poor man's Routledge. Frankly I'd be gutted if we spunked 5 million big ones on an unproven kid. Given our financial circumstances, it's one heck of a risk.

Didn't we once spunk £5m on an unproven Gary Cahill? Didn't work out too badly did it.

You could say that about a lot of players we have had. You don't know until you spend the cash. Until Cahill signed for us I knew very little about him, I would say that for a lot of previous Wanderers players

For one, when they won at Man Utd in the league cup, Zaha was far and away the best player on that pitch and ripped the Utd defence apart with his pace and power, even when left up top on his own, he's a winger.

Was hugely impressed with him.

Bits I've seen of him in the championship he's gone past folk for fun.

Big risk, but buying unproven young players always is!

Signed a new 5 & half year deal at palace last summer if memory serves me right.

I was talking about relative fees, we've gambled on loads of players and maybe we didn't spend £5m in transfer fees but what's football without a bit of a gamble?

Been saying for awhile that we should try and get ryo miyaichi on loan, would give us some much needed pace, but accoring to sky sports we face comptition from Valenciennes http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... t-Miyaichi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have to say I like the fact that we are in for Zaha, and were interested in Hoilett. This is Coyle's stated policy, buying young players, and developing our own young players, so we can sell them on at a profit, or keep them long term, whilst the team gets that vibrancy and energy from having talented young players. It is a plan that can backfire for sure, but at least we have a plan, and at least we are sticking to it.

Yes it does, and as such has no place on here.
