We've been carrying a large debt since Colin Todd spent a fortune (in real terms) and still took us down. And that was bank debt.

We're trying to stay up, and we have the Cahill money and the 50K a week he was on to play with. Thats all that should matter to any fan now, not what happened 3 years ago.
does that translate into a promise not to drone on about Megson ever again?

Now we're making progress.

Ermm I think you should ask that question of the person still posting about him, and his signings etc in the current transfer speculation thread.

Reminds me of one of those pyschics.

Coyle has confirmed the bid for Zaha at the press conference this morning.

If Nixon is just "guessing" then he's very lucky, and perhaps someone should ask him for the next set of lottery numbers!

If we sign Zaha, I'll show my arse at Westminster, never mind the town hall.

We've bid half of what they value him at, less than a week before the transfer window "slams shut" to quite Jim White.

Some cynics amongst us might even suggest we're not really that bothered, so come Wednesday morning BWFC can say "ah, but look, we tried out best! We'll just have to go with what we've got. Tom Eaves coming back will be like a new signing"

The significant part of that is "what they value him at" We valued GC at 17 mill but didn't get half that.

We didn't sell Cahill with 5 and half years left on his contract though...

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish to the South London Press: "If I find a £30m house and only want to pay £1m for it then that is not a proper offer. We never went public. They [Bolton] obviously want people to think they are doing something. People talk themselves into believing they can get a bargain."

Coyle: "I think it is documented now that we have made an offer, which we have. I don't think it is to the value that the Crystal Palace chairman [wants], but it is an offer we felt was fair for where a very talented young player is at the moment. I always put what I think is a fair value on a player and if we get to it, great. If we don't, then we have to accept that we are not going to pay what we would believe would be over the odds.
"But he is such a talented young player and he will get better - there is scope for improvement. He has got pace and unbelievable quality and natural attributes. We would love for that to come to fruition, but at the moment it looks as if we are a way apart in terms of valuation.''

Coyle on Iturbe and Miyaichi: "We are looking to bring a loan signing in as well and we do love exciting, young attacking players.''

I can't make my mind up really about the whole Zaha affair.

I admire us going after a young talented player who has great potential and will most probably make us more money in the future. But at the same time I can't see any realistic possibility of us being to negotiate a suitable price with Palace at this late stage. This is a bloke who has ages left on his current deal, and allegedly had Newcastle and Liverpool sniffing about him, clubs with the potential to pay much more than ourselves. Do we really believe we have a chance of getting him?

Chelsea started negotiationg with us about Cahill before the window even opened I seem to remember, so we must have had a fair idea that the £7 million was probably coming in for a while. Surely we should have known exactly who our targets were, so that as soon as Cahill was sold we could table offers straight away, giving us as much time as possible to negotiate with either the club or player?

Scottish.

I guess we can resign ourselves to Zaha not happening (which doesn't mean a whole lot to me as I still know nothing about him). Miyachi and La Toux—the best I think we can hope for.

Nixon agrees Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko

It's going into overdrive a bit now. Bolton have got one agreed. And will know more on the next shortly. Mental.

Think it will be Myachi...

That Zaha lad signed a new deal in December. If, say Chelsea, fancied one of ours and we wanted to extend his deal surely before the window they would be 'having a word' with the player or his agent. To smooth negotiations on a transfer.

We aren't big enough to unsettle a player publically, particularly one with a new 5 year contract. It aint happening. Maybe we should of thought about targets before January...

We're no different than other clubs OD. Make a target known and you start a bidding war and get squeezed out anyway. We have a big debt, little brass and a league position that's not exactly a player magnet. I reckon we've done well getting Ream, chances of one or two more, Mears back available and Chungy and Holden getting there. Not too much to complain about for me.
