It is sensible to go in for Rhys Williams (if not at £6m, which I doubt).

It would be idiotic to start deadline-day negotiations by offering your highest price. Of course you low-ball. Of course you do. What matters then is how much you increase your bid, which must depend on how much money you have and how highly you rate the player.

I really do think fans clearly show their personality types on deadline day. It's quite fascinating.

I'm genuinely excited about Miyaichi; by all accounts he excelled in Holland, and was given a further UK work permit on the back of that exceptional talent. He needs the experience, we need the player, Arsenal need the minutes. It makes sense and has done since I mentioned it in a TW feature written at the beginning of the window... *halo*

Can't he also play right-wing, Abs? By the way, it's nice to see you come here without being a WUM about Cahill. As many fans of other teams have discovered, if you come with abuse you'll get it back in spades - but the same applies to conversation.
EDIT: Ah, ok. You bit the fish. Rise above it.
Miyaichi is very green, but exceptional talent. He never belonged to a football club or went to any football academy before we signed him. He was discovered playing for his highschool and came to us for trail. He played extremely well for the reserves. then was signed few months after he finished highschool and went to holland in loan and looked very good there.

He's a two footed player who is very quick and good dribbler. chamberlain is little ahead of him physically, hence why he has got a chance before. but make no mistake. chamberlain and Miyaichi will be Arsenal wide men in the future. he also has exceptional attitude and incredible pace. word is he broke Arsenal sprint record which was held by walcott and before that henry

Thanks for this....I didn't realise that OC was so clever

I'm not saying that the player is worth what the club is asking, I'm saying if a club is approached and asked 'how much for player x', and they tell us £6M - why would they accept £3M unless they were desperate to offload the player.

My point exactly.. If the player is Dos Santos for examaple then Spurs do want to offload and might just let him go under valuation.

Because that's just not how it works in the real world, as opposed to fantasy football or Championship f*ckin' Manager. The buying club doesn't ask how much; they offer an amount and the sellers decide whether they agree. A fairly common tactic/bluff is to laugh and say "Double it". At which point you negotiate, or move on, especially if you're short of time.

True if a club did that to us e.g. Cahill we told them where to go as other clubs are doing to us! We do need to look across the market which english young players or any young players with a decent bit of skill are well over priced!!! Rhys Williams £6 mill Gary Cahill prem proven etc etc £7 mill dont make sense surely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't think we need another defender? A versatile one, that can play centre back?

What the feck do we need?

Have you seen a league table recently?

Have you noticed the goals for and goals against columns?

Have you noticed how nobody concedes more goals per game?

Have you noticed that we've scored more goals than nine teams, including Liverpool, Stoke and Villa?

Have you noticed we've sold Gary Cahill and taken a massive gamble on replacing him?

Have you noticed how easily David Wheater has been ripped apart by anybody who can turn faster than milk?

Have you noticed Zat Knight, at all, ever?

For the record, I wouldn't spend £6m on a Championship defender. But I wouldn't pay £7m on a Championship striker either.

Someone who can do the lone front man job, to give NGog a rest.

Someone who can play wide right.

Someone who can play if Mark Davies is tired/injured/suspended to make that system work.

We've just signed Ream. We've got Mears coming back.

Williams is best in a defensive midfield role, nice to have but I think we have other issues.

An out and out LB if we're buying a defender......

@reluctantnicko: Bolton have made an offer for Rhys Williams. It is nowhere near 6m. Sheesh. But whoever blabbed it has probably cost the deal ...

That's from Nixon.

I think Rhys Williams would be a great addition. If we stick with 4-5-1 who do we put in if one of Muamba or Reo Coker goes down and no one suggest Pratley please. From what i have seen he is real quality and extremely versatile (Seen him quite a few times for Australia) and would be a good addition.....but not for 6 Million.

We've got 2 left backs.

We currently have 3 capable striker vying for 1 striker spot.

We've got Tuncay waiting in the wings, should Mark Davies not be fit.

We've got Mark Davies. Chris Eagles, the Japanese lad all capable of playing wide right.

Good points well made.

I still think I'd prefer us to have bought a LB if we were getting a defender and free Ricketts up for the centre where I feel he's best suited...

Anyways, we're going as is, so best get on with it.

No point fretting now.

Can I suggest that we get Helen Chamberlain in then to look after our transfers in the next window....
