I see Spurs have got Nelson to cancel his contract so he can sign. Always wondered-what stops clubs coming to agreements like this after the window is closed?

He would have had to have cancelled his Blackburn contract before the window closed I think.....

Spurs aren't paying Blackburn anything for the 'transfer' of his registration, so neither club nor player is circumventing the rules.

Is it not often a case of being 23 and under at a certain date? I could be wrong. But Muamba played for the U21's last year despite being 22 at the time.

Born on or after 1st Jan 1989, as far as I can tell. Applies to all but a maximum of 2 selected 'over-age' players plus Brand Beckham.
