Thanks
yeah I'm still up here. I went on http://www.mapmyrun.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and just mapped out a route that went 8km away from the house, and then ran back
I was quite lucky that most of the roads weren't that icy. It worked out as roughly the hospital down to Farnworth, through Kearsley roundabout, up to the Robin Hood in Clifton and then back. Obviously it's not ideal with pedestrians, roads etc but it was good enough.

twiddled with a knob I've not seen before on my x-trainer today (I have no instructions as I got it free from freecycle!)
anyway - turns out it was the resistance knob - and I had turned it up significantly...
result: much knackerdness!

And therin lies the old maxim:

Tweaked a knee, however. Can still run on it, but can feel it twinging when I pick the pace up.
Swimming tomorrow, methinks.

I thought you had posh grip-tastic pumps that clamped you like a limpet to skiddy surfaces???

Re: The athletics/running thread
Early tomorrow is run 3 of week 6 for me.
I think this is 25 minutes without a break.
Yesterday was a bit tough - just two 10 minute runs but I changed my route to include some fairly substantial hills.
This may be one of my last posts.

you'll find the 25mins a doddle - it is nice not to have to stop then start again - really! - and then laura will tell you that she thinks you are now a proper runner!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Yep - been plowing along with it for a while now. I had a knee op about 10 years ago which put me off road running until you lot inspired me again. About week 4 I had terrible pains in the right knee, actually below the knee on the top of shin - doc said it was tendons/ligaments ? Anyway, some cream and anti inflammatory drugs seem to have taken care of that and have been pretty pain free since (touch wood).
It's not as easy as it was when I was sixteen.

You're right, it's not as easy as when we were sixteen, but when we all spur each other on it's incredible just how easy it actually is. You're amongst friends, Willy, don't forget that, and I couldn't have got this far without 'em. Seriously!

Aye - I didn't want to say much in case the knee packed in early. Appreciate the support though.Bruce Rioja wrote:

Actually I will be at Old Man Willy's this weekend so I will , all being well, running in what I think is your neck of the woods up by Bromley Cross. I thought I might try running in the woods/etc behind the Royal Oak/Italian place - never actually been down there before.

I'm allowed to start running again on Saturday. If there are no ill effects I intend to run two or three short runs next week whilst in Bolton. Gotta get my mileage back up having done nothing for the past 8 days. I aslo found out today I got into the Great North Run through the ballot. Now got to find a hotel room for that weekend.

Cheers. Although at £200 per night it's looking a bit costly.

It's a popular run (About 60,000) so the hotels get booked up quickly.
