You're right, it's not as easy as when we were sixteen, but when we all spur each other on it's incredible just how easy it actually is. You're amongst friends, Willy, don't forget that, and I couldn't have got this far without 'em. Seriously!
Aye - I didn't want to say much in case the knee packed in early. Appreciate the support though.

Actually I will be at Old Man Willy's this weekend so I will , all being well, running in what I think is your neck of the woods up by Bromley Cross. I thought I might try running in the woods/etc behind the Royal Oak/Italian place - never actually been down there before.
Had the cartlidge in my left knee trimmed/tied back about six years ago and had managed to convince myself that it'd all flare up as soon as I did anything. Truth is it's been like brand new ever since and hasn't kicked off once.

If you fancy a plod around the Jumbles or summat, let me know, would be only too pleased. Probably better than Harwood park.

Ok - the run went well, much better than I expected. :oyea:

I managed 4.46 Km in 27 mins which is around 6mins/Km. Robbo pace but I am happy with that. The "Runtastic" app I have for my Blackberry is very good and free if anyone is interested - just need your phone, no other gadgets.

Bruce: I'll pm you if I run this weekend it would be great to meet up.

GTE: We'll be passing on the M1 that week!! I am in Barnet Tues to Friday to see the neice and nephews (gooners) as it is half term. I'll probably run in Hadley Wood which I think is nearby. I'll be back down for the Chelsea game so a meet up is possible then.

Feeling very smug. :D

Edit: I genuinely forgot the most important thing. I quit smoking when I started the running. Haven't really thought about having a cig so I'm lucky. Thanks to WTW for that inspiration a few weeks ago.

Go to Trent Park. Cockfosters Road, Enfield. Miles and miles and miles of trail to run round. You'll love it. There's a cafe there too for post run cake fun.

Oh, and well done!

Actually, I do remember Prufrock saying that it gets him a little giddy when he hears posh birds asking for tickets to Cockfosters.

Isn't there a Nob End in Little Lever?

Aye, I've climbed Nob End many a time :)

Cockfosters always make me do a childish giggle.

yeah - same here when I went last week - lasted 30 mins (with rests between lengths!) - and watched the 80 yr olds with no rests between laps just keep ploughing on!! :-)

still - GG's gonna teach me breast-stroke tomorrow - so will be awesome next time and I will totally pwn those old biddies!

I don't like swimming but see it as a necessary evil. Did you swim continuously? If so Bravo!

Try swimming in sets to break things up and improve your stamina.

Example:

Warm up. 8 x 25m Front Crawl

Then 3 sets of 50m 1 X FC, 1 x Arms only 1 x legs only (use a float if you need to and hold it at arms length) 20 seconds recovery between sets.

Warm down 8 x 25m Front Crawl

That's 850 m overall (over 1/2 mile)

Makes me laugh every time. Like embarrasingly so. She says it at EVERY stop too. This is a Piccadily line train to (tee-hee) Cockfosters.

How can you need 'teaching' breast-stroke? Other than for walking it's the most basic movement known to man.

I can see what you're up to, you sly old fox ;)
