I suspect you like it for different reasons - and Mr T would be irritated that you kept FF'ing and REW'ing it to the scene where Mr Darcy emerges from the lake...Gooner Girl wrote:I'd watch it with you Tango. I love Pride and Prejudice! (BBC version is better then the film)TANGODANCER wrote:Only fast forwarded because I know it so well Bobo. P & P is in a class of its own. Sense and Sensibility I found hard work without too much real story. The rest, Emma, ( which is probably J.A' second best work) and the two you mention aren't in the same class at all. I've seen other film versions and have the Kierra Knightley DVD but none touch the BBC version by a mile. I've read the book half-a-dozen times, each time gaining more insight into Jane Austen. A real classic for me although, I admit, not everyone's cup of tea.Full of admiration Tango.
I have tried with Jane Austen, really I have. The books ('did' Persuasion for Level & Northanger Abbey for A Level), the audio tapes, the TV & the films and I cannot abide it ... any of it. 'Fast Forward' for me would take me from the opening to the credits and I'd still be bored.

Signed up to the months free trial of Netflix. their library isnt great and includes very few recent releases, but theres enough to last me a month.
watched a Docu-drama called The Bridge, all about notorious suicides on, or off, the Golden Gate bridge. decent.
and also a Mexican film called Sin Nombre. pretty much along the lines of City of God but not as good.
Netflix.

Was going to get a month trial. But I'll forget to cancel and end up having to shell out the whopping £7.99 a month or whatever.

Funny thing that. On the BBC DVD versions he doesn't actually do that, he's just shown diving in then walking up the hill on the other side. I have a vague recollection he did in the original showing on TV, but it must have hit the cutting room floor somewhere along the line..thebish wrote:I suspect you like it for different reasons - and Mr T would be irritated that you kept FF'ing and REW'ing it to the scene where Mr Darcy emerges from the lake...Gooner Girl wrote:I'd watch it with you Tango. The Bridge left a really lasting impression on me. The long haired chap they kept going back to - you could see him weighing up the arguments to himself before he did that christ like back flip off it. I went to the bridge a few months after, was weak at the knees looking over the side.General Mannerheim wrote:watched a Docu-drama called The Bridge, all about notorious suicides on, or off, the Golden Gate bridge. decent.

Sin Nombre is an excellent film but you're right - not as good as the incomparable City of God

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Watched Cabaret.
Watched it for personal reasons - but it is a really, really good movie.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Those personal reasons wouldn't be an undying candle for Liza M would it?
Watched The Grey.
Interesting film and certainly not "Taken- with wolves" like I was expecting. It seemed to be more about people on the brink of death coming to terms with "the void". Quite nihilistic. By the same guy who did Narc for those that care about that kind of thing.
Only trouble though is it's pitched somewhere between the action crowd and those that wanted to see a philisophical survival-flick. Doesn't quite manage to satisy either, but a bold attempt.

It truly is. I'm not really into musicals, but this one is "simply the best".William the White wrote:Watched Cabaret.

I never tire of the film or the stage show.
