I have the memory of a small fish so decided to watch some of those Reebok Classics DVDs to rediscover how we used to play. Last night was the last game of the 2003 season where we beat 'Boro 2-1 to stay up. Good game, lot's of side stories, Okocha's freekick. The thing that struck me the most was that apparently before the game BSA had asked for "a cauldron of noise" at the 'Bok. I miss the tough talking!

Same with the Wire for me .... and Lost .... and Twin Peaks in the day.

I think I avoid things which seem to go on & on & on ..... evenbefore they've gone on & on & on. It must be an instict.


That said, I did watch Homeland last night & enjoyed it.

If you look on the DVD, when the ref blows the final whistle it shows Nobby picking the ball up and drop-kicking it into the the West Stand Upper. What it doesn't show is me leaping like a salmon and in a manner that Jaaskelainen could only dream of, catching it in mid-air. I shoved it inside my jacket and walked out expecting some functionary to take it off of me, but they didn't, so it now sits on the bookcase in the spare room at home.

You definitely have the better of the fish qualities, lack of memory isn't generally that useful.

Ah that part when Frandsen has just smashed that brilliant goal in and the camera pans to Allardyce who looks like hes bursting into tears with delight. What a day that was.

The whole run in to the end of that season was just fantastic. Obviously not at the time.

But the whole focus of attention in the premiership seemed to be on us and West Ham and we both produced fantastic form.

Each week was just one cup final and into another. Can't remember anything like it.

Southampton away, tea time Saturday kick off sticks out. Listening on the radio to the West ham, Chelsea game in the stand. West ham won meaning that we needed at least a point at Southampton to keep it in our hands for the final day. We grind out the most nerve wracking 0-0 possible. Can't remember anything about the game, just the unbearable tension in the stand, before and during the game.

It was wondrous. I maintain Jay Jay was the best player on the planet for those last 5 or six months. City at home where he missed a penalty after about 10 mins and then was absolutely immense stands out in my memory.

A much smaller event this year. But quality.

Watched Braveheart, the truth, last night. Tore the Mell Gibson version to ribbons. Fascinating part about longbows and armour in it. English arrows ( demonstrated by the War Bow Society) pierced a side of beef and broke bone, yet padded jackets made of multi layers of cloth actually stopped them doing the same thing. Oh, and blue paint was never used and kilts weren't invented till a few hundred years later, and the famous "Wallace Sword" that attracts the tourists was proven a total fake. .

Sorry Mel, the film was as jocose as you, a born New Zealander, turning up at the Scottish premier of the film in full Scottish reglia in tartan kilt, sporran and shawl.
