Hey Will, I see that a local amateur dramatic society are having a go at " And did those feet". Nice one.

Not sure where the guy's been "a bit mean", William?William the White wrote: In the meantime - big heads up for theatre lovers - I was in stratford last night for a brilliant new play - The Heresy of Love.
Michael Billington's review is very supportive, but I think a bit mean..

It may be that the production has gained strength since the press night. But this is very, very good...
I'd watch it on the strength of that review even without the heads-up from your good self.
Do you think it'll tour?
On the subject of Thacker modernising Macbeth, btw, have you seen the Shakespeare Retold DVD yet?

Was in yesterday's BN Bruce. Not till November, but apparently a group called the Marco Players will do it at Chorley Old Road Methodist Church, Nov 7th til 10th. No doubt Les will have better details.Bruce Rioja wrote:Really? Details please, Tango.TANGODANCER wrote:Hey Will, I see that a local amateur dramatic society are having a go at " And did those feet". My God, but that's some heavy stuff on that stage. Dark and unremitting from start to end, but I guess you already know that. Excellent cast, really excellent! Not exactly in a modern setting but we are back to the Generals of Midsummer Nights Dream, or at least they found a use for some of the greatcoats from that production.Bruce Rioja wrote:Be most interested to know how this goes, Will. Is it a modern re-working?William the White wrote:Tonight - Press night of Macbeth at the Octagon. Looking forward to this...![]()

Not my favourite Shakespeare, I must admit, but a great night out nevertheless.
Oh, and a factual but very touching obit from WtW in the program for Romy Baskerville. Nice write-up there and, again, condolences.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Thank you for that, Clapton. Romy was a very special person. And the very last writing I ever wanted to do was her obituary.
Yes, Macbeth is a very dark and violent play, and David Thacker gives that element full rein.
I thought the star last Friday was Lady Macbeth - tremendous performance.
My major reservation is that I didn't really sense any sexual chemistry between her and Macbeth and without that the relationship is puzzling. With it, the play works brilliantly.
But, really, unmissable.
Though I think his production of midsummer night's dream is the best of the three so far...

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Returned from a weekend away to celebrate wedding anniversary... To the Lakes once more... Is there any part of England more beautiful? This time a hotel between Windermere and Ambleside...
And, once more, four seasons in two days... Sunday morning saw snow upon the mountain tops over Windermere - magnificent view for breakfast... We did three short and easy walks over the weekend... bit lazy this year... a couple of lovely pubs... Fab food at our hotel (a good special offer)... Talked a lot... Had a great time in each others company... This was our 29th anniversary... We agreed to spend the next in Venice...
I have to tell you there is one man on this forum happy... (Errrmmmm... we avoided football...)

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Just been to a memorial service at Salford Cathedral for a work colleague who very sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago after battling cancer, she was only my age, 29, and the place was crammed with her friends, colleagues and relatives.
We each got a candle at the start to light and put at the front on a display. Anyhow, near the end of the service, the whole altar goes up in flames! Someone threw some water on it and a huge puff of flame shot up - next minute someone else blasted it with a fire extinguisher to cheers and applause, then everyone filed out of the place as smoke engulfed the building. It was some send off!

A significant birthday for my wife today. Tonight we're are The Lowry for Derren Browns' Svengali show. We saw him at the same venue a couple of years ago for his Enigma show and it was mind blowing so hoping for more of the same tonight. had these tickets for over a year!
