It's something you do a lot of so should sound familiar. But no, I was pointing out that successful is partly perception on the part of the fans. If Allardyce brings success by west hams fans standards he will be popular.thebish wrote:hmmm... so you're proving a theory by leaving out/discounting any data that disagrees with it? (that sounds very familiar!)BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah but that's West Ham where they have unrealistic definitions of successful. If he takes em into Europe next season they'll all love him, however arrogant he becomes and however many times he talks about Pomo.thebish wrote:would you say that West Ham have been successful under allardyce?BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermm yes frankly. We has a sticky patch to start with and I remember a fair few disgruntled cat calls.Bruce Rioja wrote: Mate - do you honestly think people only liked Rioch because he was successful? Really?
He wasn't liked at the clubs that he didn't bring success to, so I think achieving success is pretty much the defining factor for a manager being liked!

so you don't think west ham fans view promotion as success?

No they will see it as a bare minimum, they wont judge him successful till he achieves for them in the premiership.thebish wrote:so you don't think west ham fans view promotion as success?

I agree with you. West Ham fans see themselves as a big club, on a par with Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. Therefore will want something along the lines of them, if he doesn't produce.....he won't be liked.BWFC_Insane wrote:No they will see it as a bare minimum, they wont judge him successful till he achieves for them in the premiership.thebish wrote:so you don't think west ham fans view promotion as success?

well - I live every day among west ham fans - and I can only report that the ones I speak to are VERY happy with the results and their league position - and consider the season to be a success - BUT - they do not like Allardyce...BWFC_Insane wrote:No they will see it as a bare minimum, they wont judge him successful till he achieves for them in the premiership.thebish wrote:so you don't think west ham fans view promotion as success?
how has your opinion been formed?

Totally agree. We need to stay behind the team and just hope we stay up.
And to the people slagging off coyle, i didnt see you moaning when we were 6/7 in the league and playing
at wembley in the fa cup semi final. (just saying).

We are poor, all over the park.
Our defence is worse now than when we got promoted with Simon Charlton in it.
Our midfield contains Darren Pratley.
Up front we've got a trier in Ngog, a struggling SKD, a never-fit Klasnic.
The fat lady has been singing since we got embarrassed by the big clubs early in the season, but it's pointless banging on about protests and a managerial change. Owen isn't going anywhere, we might as well back him (and we have backed him, all season, despite some of the worst football in our recent history) and hope the other shit clubs can't get their act together either.
To quote that born-with-a-platinum-spoon-up-his-arse David Cameron fella - We're All In This Together.

BSA is a means to an end. I can imagine that once in the prem they will be looking to get rid asap. I have, feck me, got to agree with Bish. I too am surrounded by West Ham fans and they say they'll tolerate Sam, but that doesn't mean they have to like him. A lot of them have had to swallow a deal of pride knowing a good percentage of their squad are ex-Bolton. It's a pride thing

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

Wasn't that before our run of 3 wins in 450 games?Phoenix89 wrote:Totally agree. We need to stay behind the team and just hope we stay up.

There's lots of different permutations that our in-house genius has not yet tried.
For example, he has not once picked Bogdan as an attacking midfielder. Not once..... what is he thinking? He is making progress however with the Ream selection on Saturday. Our little Rio could well be a find as a central defender although he has only 11 games to bed in before he is off back to the Arse so we need to get him training with Zat "the Rock" Knight as a matter of urgency.
But perhaps, just perhaps he is saving the best until we can be dazzled by his brilliance when he selects himself to play up front in the Cup against Spurs!
Remember, you heard it here first.
