The athletics/running thread

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Go for it. You've ran about a mile since Christmas ;)

Get yourself going again.
Cheek! (though probably not far from the truth...)

Thinking I might run with my running partner tonight rather then go home and watch Arsenal though... Far too depressing.

Need to go for one myself tonight too (having slept through Saturday's parkrun  )

I'm just feeling tired and lazy! Need some early nights or a kick up the bum to motivate me. My get up and go has got up and gone...

The Axman wrote:PBs [most of them come from decades ago when I was in school]

100m ~13.5 sec (aged 15)
400m 59 sec (aged 18)
marathon 2 hrs 45 min (aged 21)
long jump 12 ft 8 in (aged 16)
high jump 5 ft 2 in (aged 16)
Triple jump 11 ft (aged 14)
pole vault 4m 10cm (aged 17)
javelin 62 ft (aged 20)
football - got picked for school teams 6 times in total - scored 1 goal (aged 12) in a match we won 8-1

As you can see I wasn't very good at chucking or jumping. The pole vault entry wasn't just my PB, it was the only successful pole vault I ever managed; I was really really shit at it but it fascinated me.
Triple jump, I couldn't even get into the pit, and ninety nine times out of a hundred I'd foul the hop or step bit. I must be the only person in the universe with a better PB for long jump than I had for triple jump.

As is evident I was only good at one type of event - long distance. I could canter for hours. Cross country was my idea of heaven for sports lessons.

And your triple, high and long jump distances in metres for the youngsters amongst us please?
long jump 12 ft 8 in (aged 16) = 3.9m
high jump 5 ft 2 in (aged 16) = 1.6m
Triple jump 11 ft (aged 14) = 3.4m

(all rounded up very slightly)

My PB for high jump was 1.45, and yes, i was never gonna do very well cos i'm not very tall... (Shush GtE!) I think it should be judged in relation to your height like vertical jump is in sports hall league!

Actually, joshing about your diminutive stature aside (for now ;) ), that's actually a fair point.

A mermaid with arthritis and a zimmer frame could triple jump further than me, so I wouldn't boast about that either, young woman

That was hardly abuse. I could abuse you three times worse than that.
