corners for wanderers
just seen interesting report on SSN wanderes have only scored 3 goals from corners and have let in 11...why is this we have some big players so why have we only scored 3 goals from corners,

Re: corners for wanderers
Nobody on our team seems to able to take a corner. They all seem to hit the first man.si2008 wrote:just seen interesting report on SSN wanderes have only scored 3 goals from corners and have let in 11...why is this we have some big players so why have we only scored 3 goals from corners,

Formerly known as Meg'sEleven. And Owen'sEleven. And Dougie'sEleven. We're getting through them aren't we...
Re: corners for wanderers
I won't go into the complicated science of it all...
but it's basically Megson's fault.

We are so bad at corners, that when we get one the opposing team's fans cheer, knowing that a shot on goal for them is imminent.
Re: corners for wanderers
This is so true, I'm never completely comfortable when we get a corner because I always think that the opposition will go straight up the other end and scoreohjimmyjimmy wrote:We are so bad at corners, that when we get one the opposing team's fans cheer, knowing that a shot on goal for them is imminent.
Pfffft.

This.

Or go straight up the other end, win a corner of their own, and then score.

Only the shite teams take that circuitous route.Prufrock wrote:Or go straight up the other end, win a corner of their own, and then score.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Yet you still get 'expert summarisers' saying that we are a real threat from set-pieces based on the perception from Sam's days. We're not even a particularly big team are we?

Monty will be on in a minute to explain how sometimes it isn't good to score straight away, you need to wait for a bit in proper sports like American Rugby.

One from a Miyaichi corner from the right, and one from a Petrov cross from the left - second phase after a Petrov corner from the left was clearedadamworthy2002 wrote:Scored one from a corner today, still some awful corners though
Getting there, although Blackburn's defending was a bit comic-cuts at times

Re: corners for wanderers
We've still managed the double over them this season though. Can't say much for Steve Kean's training methods if he can't beat us comfortably given 2 cracks at it.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Them and QPR. Make it four points off Wolves next weekend and suddenly we've got a third of the necessary points off three of our rivals (which only makes the Wigan home game the more irritating).Lord Kangana wrote:We've still managed the double over them this season though.

Even I'd be tempted to convert to Coyle's methods if he managed to bag 4 points from Wolves next weekend.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Them and QPR. I'm sure I've said it before, it's how we do against every bugger else, not just Blackburn, that'll prove the point, or otherwise.

I think you were making that point about QPR, as it happens.

Re: corners for wanderers
Petrov put in some very good deliveries yesterday. Credit to him for that.
I think it's been obvious that we need to use set pieces more to our advantage. We have some players who are good in the air (Wheater, Ricketts, Kevin Davies, etc) and a good ball in at a set piece gives us a great chance to score. Let's hope the Petrov we saw yesterday stays for the rest of the season.
