Anyone remember the Auteurs?
Just reading Bad Vibes by their former frontman Luke Haines & despite listening to a lot of music around that time, I cant for the life of me, remember em. Anyone think they were any good?

Re: What are you playing tonight?
I do, Harry. they were one of a glut of decidedly average 90's guitar bands like Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Pop Will Eat Itself and Kingmaker.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Frank Turner, the poster boy for the agitated middle classes.

The Auteurs had one really good song; buggered if I can remember the title. Used to have it, and will now look it up. Will report back if any progress.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
I remember seeing him play an open-mic night in Archway in front of about 20 people. Wasn't anyone's poster boy then, and he hasn't changed. In fact, if you see the video for I Knew Prufrock, you'll see yours truly (he knew me you see
, well, kind of), but enough name dropping, that's for the famous thread!
Seeing him headlining Wembley on the 18th, supported by Billy Bragg. Was going to do some sort of mini festival dual stage thing but sold too many tickets now and had to open it all up. Those bloody agitated middle classes!
What in particular you been listening to, squire?

I kind-of like him, but it's tainted by the fact that the person I consider to be the biggest nice person in the entire world has Turner as his favourite, so by association I don't like him.jmjhb wrote:Frank Turner, the poster boy for the agitated middle classes.

I don't think Billy Bragg is a quasi-socialist. And infinitely preferable to his uncle.
He's a for real socialist.
Don't care for his voice myself, do like his opinions, wouldn't mind an invite to his house...
So, Bruce, was your grandfather a socialist and trade unionist? Where did you go wrong?

No - he fell out / was disowned by his family over his politics. Will tell you over that pint, Fella. He was my hero.William the White wrote:I don't think Billy Bragg is a quasi-socialist. And infinitely preferable to his uncle.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

yet even Billy Bragg was taken in by Cleggmania... (though I think he has now seen the error of his ways..)
Re: What are you playing tonight?
have spent much of the afternoon performing a selection of Easter music solos and duets - including quite a few of Sydney Carter's timeless (lesser-known) folk-settings.. I discovered today that he used to write for Donald Swann...

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
