Bogeys

Post by William the White » Sun Apr 01, 2012 6:48 pm

The recent claim that we NEVER beat Fulham on the 'Bottom 5' got me wondering who were actually our biggest bogeys...

[I know, i know, but my wife and daughter are both away, i've finished The Observer and it's a slow Sunday]...

So, examining the historical record, and calculating the difference between victories and defeat, it looks like our top ten bogeys are:

Everton -33
Derby - 18
Liverpool -17
Arsenal -16
Chelsea -13
FRS -11
Newcastle - 10
Sunderland - 10
Sheff Wed -9
Bristol C -8

Feckin Everton...

Nice work - now for the tricky part - find a premier league team we have a winning record against! Bristol Bloody City.

not good - of the current Prem we have a positive record against only four, I think...

Blackburn +5
QPR +5
WBA +4
Stoke +3

Where are Wiggin ? I always feel they 'do' us. Again, probably a myth, but it does seem like that.

I've always rationalised it that we've played them when they wee on the up & we were on the down. I did think the overall record would be worse than that.

As a young fan I always thought it was written in stone somewhere that we never beat Bristol City or Bury. I can remember a few wins against Fulham but never really forgiven them for keeping us at bay in the final game of the 1978 season.

remember a bit back needing to win or draw against bristol city at ashton gate and either superjohn and/or mark patterson (!?) scoring in a win of some kind

forget why, but it were something to do with overtaking someone to go near/the top of the league, seemed super important (f.w.i.r.) at the time (similar to beating a kevin francis led stockport a few seasons before *yes!*) , but it were christmas time and nowhere near the arse end of the season.

it were in the reading playoff season.

I think I was at that game myself... Mark Patterson scored in the first two minutes, I think, and they wouldn't have scored in a month of Sundays.

About 500 of us sang 'WATOAOW' for something like 90 minutes...

The only time, in many visits to Ashton Gate, I've seen us get even a point...

Was hopeful this thread would provide a recreation of the classic Dick & Dom game.

Disappointing.

The only Dick and Dom recreation I can think of is, as helpfully defined in Roger's Profanisaurus, a pizza and a wank. Is that what you were after?

If we stay up and West Ham get promoted, that should guarantee us six points...... :|

Everton are the only current Prem team that have a better record - all years not just the Prem - at our home ground (Bok and Burnden) than we do.

Well saying only current Prem team - I probably didn't have QPR, Norwich ans Swansea checked out...

I am sure I rmember that being the first win since the 50's against them or something... Not that I remember the 50's more that Sharrock was going on about it being such.
