Today I'm happy about......

Those of you on Twitter, will probably know already, but I'm happy about the team I play for winning the title on Saturday.

We've currently got 60 points from our 20 games conceding only 18 goals all season (as a defender, I'm pretty pleased with that!)

Only downside, was I missed the game due to watching the whites at wolves, of which I'm also still happy...

500mm, the bish? With a focal length like that it's going to need a pretty seriously sized objective lens. It's many years ago, but I used a 300mm on my old Yashica but even with an approx. 3" - 3½" objective it was a bit ordinary when used at its limit unless the subject was reflecting/emitting a lot of light. All that mass can put a bit of a strain on the camera's body, a fact of which I was always aware and worried about.

it's just the size that counts! On my nikon d60 it'll struggle a little to capture much movement, but then I doubt I will use it for that... the sigma nikon-fit lens (that I have a chance of affording 2nd hand on a lucky day on ebay) has one aspherical lens and three SLD glasses - but is surprisingly light for its reach - 1,320g. that's still quite heavy but still hand-holdable at a push, but i anticipate most of its use will be tripod mounted - it has its own tripod mount to take the strain off the camera body... or rested on a beanbag or bird-hide window ledge...

all lenses have a "sweet-spot" - usually backed off a bit from the limit...

I had a 1000mm Bausch and Lomb telescope to which I could attach my Canon A1. Also a 250-500 mm zoom lense. Fun while they lasted but I lost them in the divorce along with just about everything else. Now I just have my little digital which does well enough.

I have three names; two I was Christened with and a Confirmation name. Do people still do that or is it just a Catholic thing? My last two wives are C of E, so the kids were Christened but not confirmed. Not that you ever use the third one mind.

tango - you were named when you were registered - not when you were christened. Catholic priests have no power at all to name babies. christening is not a naming ceremony.

Good grief, are you a Heathen ? Shall we all start praying for you ? How will you ever get to heaven ? You need to switch churches to "the one true faith" & PDQ matey, or your eternal soul will dwell permanently in Limbo. Even if some Pope says it doesn't exist. Coz he was wrong ... it does. It must do because previous Pope's have said it did & Pope's are infallible ... even the one who was wrong to say it doesn't.

It's a Roman Catholic thing where you have your first communion at a young age (7 or 8 ) and pick a third name (well often a fourth over here because RCs all get Mary or Joseph at the beginning). C. Of E.s get confirmed much older - say 15 or 16 - and many don't go through with it. Even if they do there is no extra name handed out.

Salvation, so I was told though I wasn't really listening. I was at boarding school. If you were confirmed you could go to early service (30 minute) on Sunday before breakfast, have a swig of wine and get the rest of the day off. If you were not confirmed you had to go to the 11.00 am service, with no wine and a lengthy sermon (90 minutes) and basically only the afternoon off. I signed up for confirmation classes at the earliest possible opportunity. Oh, I forgot - C.of E.'s do get wine at communion, Roman Catholics only get a dry wafer. Shame, eh?

Nope .... they get a drink these days. Been the case about 20 years now.

... but it's NOT wine or wafer, it's "the body and the blood of Christ" the miracle having happened during the consecration. The CofE types just get wine & a wafer biscuit. Hardly seems worth bothering really does it .... just for that.

We were given the body and blood of christ at CofE. I always thought it was a bit of an icky idea to be honest. And the wine always tasted shit.

Interesting. RC churches in Quebec only offer the wafer - the priest drinks the wine. I suspect the reason is that some 80% + of the population are RC so no need to compete with the Protestant churches by offering extras. Mind you, there is an alcohol problem with priests.

For us it is wine and wafer as symbols of the blood and body. We don't believe in transubstantiation where, every Eucharist, a miracle takes places and wafers and wine are actually changed into body and blood. We also have serious doubts about immaculate conception (not that too many people know what that is).
