The pain is bearable and not getting any worse with the increased mileage. If I take it easy and maintain today's pace I'll get through the race in two weeks.

I guess it depends on what kind of pain it is though, if it's muscular you'd be crazy but something else (I'm not medical) might be ok.

I guess you work within your limitations. The pain I experience is transient and therefore bearable. Anyway, roll on the 22nd.Gooner Girl wrote:You were right with your first guess AW - Crazy!Armchair Wanderer wrote:Gary the Enfield wrote:

I know you're not really aiming for your 'time' any more, but two weeks?! That's just lazy!Gary the Enfield wrote:Pretty good thanks!Gooner Girl wrote:How do you feel after the 18 miles?Gary the Enfield wrote:Yes, even if I have to crawl over the finish line.

Well yes, but if I do it in less time then I'll have achieved something. :0)Prufrock wrote:I know you're not really aiming for your 'time' any more, but two weeks?! Cheers Pru. I was thinking of posting my race number so, if people wanted to, they could follow my progress on race day (there's an app, apparently).Prufrock wrote:Ah, the old 'aim low, achieve everything' method

Re: The athletics/running thread
Aye, get it on here Gary. Let us know what colour top you'll be wearing too.
It's looking likely that I'll have to defer my place. I did 11 miles yesterday at 8.45 pace which was pretty much what I was aiming for on race day. Trouble is, I was in a lot of pain from mile 3 onwards and hobbled to & from the Reebok yesterday (wish I hadn't bothered
).
Swimming + 3 lots of physio this next fortnight and then I'll make a firm decision. I need to find out how late I can defer my entry

Hope you don't have to defer HG. But it's not worth damaging yourself if you have the option.Harry Genshaw wrote:Aye, get it on here Gary. Let us know what colour top you'll be wearing too.

Good plan, let me know about the app. Shame you won't have your mobile with you so we can't text you helpful stuff such asGary the Enfield wrote:Cheers Pru. I don't have the option. I deferred last year when I discovered I had a hernia. They don't let you defer twice.Gooner Girl wrote:Cough!Gary the Enfield wrote:Hope you don't have to defer HG. Believe it or not there were people with mobiles two years ago phoning friends and relatives to tell them where they were on the course. It was like a Dom Joly sketch.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Just knocked 3 minutes 25 seconds off my personal best
No, not running, but walking. Got a route around Chorlton that takes me around an hour and I'm just beginning to put a few yards running in there too with the aim of building myself up a bit for the Cumbria Way in June.
