Re: Marvin Sordell
I share your disappointment mr picccollo, however, Marv clearly has talent and, should we stay up, I think that next year he'll have a signifcant impact.
FWIW, I think that Sordell is twice the player that Vaz Te is/was.

Re: Marvin Sordell
Blackburn was the odd one. Need a goal, Klas is the man, as seen against QPR. 2-1 up against Blackburn, you want pace, to stretch them. Presumably the 'keep Klas happy till then end of the season' campaign wins out. Top two next year are N'Gog and Sordell IMO. Sordell an Andy Johnson run the line win penalties stylee.

Re: Marvin Sordell
Technically they may be quite similar. Vaz te was unlucky with injuries here and ultimately he seemed to lose confidence. I'm still not convinced he has the mental strength to make it at the highest level whereas Sordell has been lucky enough to have a confidence building smooth start to his career. Infact next year will be the first real test of his mental strength if we are still in the prem.BWFC1874 wrote:I share your disappointment mr picccollo, however, Marv clearly has talent and, should we stay up, I think that next year he'll have a signifcant impact.

Oh I agree I'd like to see him.mrpiccollo wrote:agreed but i was just making the point id like to actually see the lad play (in a bolton shirt) from what i see of him hes got talent and will score plenty for us when he get 10 starts back to back like ngog we can all know if he will be a white for sometime to come or if hes just a benchwarmer for us, id like to just see him play and get off the bench once ina while though really.the-Bowtun-Warrior wrote:Can't believe some of the lack of understanding and patience on this thread.
Look at where we are.
Look at certain performances.
Ask how individuals have ended up in before him and why.
The lads time will come. To start him now over N'Gog would be unfair and stupid. To play him over a midfielder and change the system we have (given that Pratley is back tomorrow) would be unfair and stupid IMO.
But I won't be demanding so at our teams potential cost and moaning at OC for 'not giving him his chance'.
Sadly, it just hasn't happened yet. It may do today. It imay come next week.
We may have to wait until August. If so, I will understand.

THIS.
That's good enought for me too.
If he doesn't play all season but goes onto score 10 next year I think OC will be proved correct.
The lads time will come

Re: Marvin Sordell
What an absolute waste of our transfer window budget
Why on earth spend £3M on a fast, pacy young striker with potential and then never play him. He's different to the 3 other static, immobile strikers who we have - who knows the surprise element he brings could have made a difference, defenders hate playing against fast, pacey strikers.
I'm baffled - just what is the point saving him for the championship, and BTW he should have been given 45 mins today at home not away to Newcastle when we're 3-0 down at HT, which is what Coyle is more likely to do.
I feel a little sorry for Sordell, he'd have been better going to Cardiff

IIRC, we'd spent days chasing the kid from Palace (who I'd never heard of) for twice the fee. Then turns to Sordell, who was at least willing, & then never given him one blind minute. I bet hus confidence is sky high !!
Either way, why the hell he's not been given a bit of a run out is beyond me. What was the point of the SKD substitution today .... he & N'gog together is pointless. Then take N'gog off .... just confused. Esp. as that meant we had the proven-to-be-unworkable Davies/Klasnic partnership then.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Just a note
£3m is the PACKAGE.
I really wish folk would stop suggesting we have wasted £3m on the transfer.
If he doesn't play for 3/4 years then it is £3m wasted.

To be fair to Coyle, I think the plan is to slowly wean Marvin into the Premiership; take things slowly so he finds his feet. Makes sense-he's young and it's a big step up.
But y'know...wean quicker Owen. Wean him quicker.

Re: Marvin Sordell
the lad you had never heard of
Wilfred Zaha is an exceptional young talent somewhere inbetween moses and walcott 7 mil was a good offer for him in my oppinion though and crystal palace dropped the ball not accepting
but on the other hand if we had got him we wouldent have miyayachi so i suppose things worked out well in the end^
still think sordell should have been given a run at fulham today perhaps alongside SKD instead of klasnic
hell honestly today i knew fulham would score lots we should have gone all out from the start to score then we may have had a chance

Got me beat too.
I understand that Coyle isn't going to "buy" anyone over 24, but at the risk of going down, and spending quite a wedge on someone to park on the bench...
All a bit bizarre.

I just wonder whether he was our 2nd choice; he was less well scouted and, on arriving he's shown to be a bit lacking.Worthy4England wrote:Got me beat too.

I bloody hope not, but I fail to see why he's not even had an odd 10 minutes off the bench.

The "under 24" policy is awesome, esp if they prove to be decent and we get a sell-on fee. No problem with that at all. Could have done with that policy a while back.
This whole thing comes down to OC being slow to react. So he was slow to figure out that whatever we were doing wasn't working. And he's slow to bring people through into the first team unless he has literally no other choice (Riley). BTW, what happened to Riley?
Anyway, part of me likes the fact that he's not over-reacting to events that happen every week and is giving certain players an opportunity. But, the other part of me looks at the Marvin/Tuncay situation and sighs. Both players have had a decent amount of first team football, albeit not for us.
Is OC being slow/stubborn? Or is it that he feels like he has to put the highest earners on the pitch? Or does he remember that game when he was a player and was left out of that game when he should have played? Or is it the magic dice telling him what to do?
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
