anyway - he says he won a medal in the war.. blah blah blah - and now he's 83..

hang on...

83... that means born in 1929

the 2nd WW started in 1939 unless I am very much mistaken..

so - he was 10 when it started and 16 when it finished - and won a medal??

I suspect they are lying and haven't really thought it through....

True but Charlie is an uncommon fellow and people may refer to the war they were in as the war. Further, while I agree they didn't use underage people in combat situations (though I know some who lied to get in at 16), Charlie didn't suggest it was a combat medal. He could have pulled a portly cross-dresssing bishop from a burning building, though why anyone would want to do that I cannot imagine.

I coach an U-14's football team. This morning we had the first of our 2 remaining fixtures against the team at the bottom of the league. All other teams have finished their fixtures, so we knew that if we beat them home and away, we'd win the league. We drew 1-1. Absolutely gutted.

No. We had to win both our remaining games to put us level on points with the current leaders (who've played all their games). It then gets decided on number wins, not goal difference. We'd have had the same number of wins as the leaders. It then goes to wins against each other. It's on this that we'd have then won the league, since we drew agains them and beat them.

As it is, we blew it today. We're now domed to 2nd place.

The only crumb of comfort is that we're still in the cup. We play in the semi-final next weekend.

I was on the other side of the road with the dog when a woman drove up, mounted the pavement at 45 degrees with three wheels and tried to post her letter without getting out of the car. She had a couple of attempts at stretching, backed off and nearly flattened the privet headge having another go. She then had to roll back and get out and post the dam letter. From the roadside it's no more than four normal paces to the letter box. Why?
