Memory playing tricks, I couldn't recall whether a Double Dock was red or white, so I lobbed it into Google to try and refresh my memory. Won't be doing that again...Bruce Rioja wrote:Or a "Double Dock", as I recall

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Dynamite stuff back then. We just called them schooners. Went in one night with a couple of mates. One of them was a small, quiet bloke who wouldn't say boo to a goose. As soon as the air outside hit him he was squaring up to a bloke at the bus stop, about six-feet nine. We dragged him off and he remarked "He didn't look so big to me! The power of the Aussie.Bruce Rioja wrote:Or a "Double Dock", as I recall

It was as sweet as a muscat though. But of course in those days which 15yr old scrote from a council house in Horwich knew a good wine from a poor one ? Not this one, for sure.
The place looked exactly like a saloon from a western movie. Bloody scary.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

They used to serve it warm as a 'Hot Toddy' too. Anyway, me and my mates had been watching The Warriors at the cinema facing The Balmoral. Course, like Tango's mate, one of ours came out imbued with the Corinthian spirit and required some restraining after a couple of docks

Those were the days. Before they moved in speakers as big as double wardrobes and shipped in 500 screeching females on girls nights out. Last time I went in there ( a while back admittedly) I did a swift about turn and went to the Balmoral instead. Organised madness.bobo the clown wrote:It was as sweet as a muscat though. Re: Where are you going tonight?
Just to put it in context cinama-wise: Lido, ABC, whatever else, Tiggies. On Churchgate you had the Theatre Royal, later JJB etc.. and at the Bradshawgate/Trinity Street Junction, The Queens, later Comet etc.. There. That should do it.Burnden Paddock wrote:Twas when we were lads Bruce. These other fellas must be quite a bit older than us.Bruce Rioja wrote:Seem to think it was called summat like Screen 1, 2 & 3

Bolton had a massive amount of cinemas ( and pubs) back in the day.

Was the Trinity St one used for showing Indian stuff for a time?
And wasn't there one near the market?

Don't know to the first, but the Odeon was the one near the market. Been trying to think of what was in the Deane Road and Derby Street area. Tivoli is at the back of my mind.CAPSLOCK wrote:Was the Trinity St one used for showing Indian stuff for a time?
