Really? You don't know your county very well.
I have been in and through Epping Forest many many times - walking - and on the Bike (you may have seen the old fart biker groups huddled around the tea-shacks!)
It is beautiful and refreshing - but it isn't in any way comparable to the glories of open proper-hilly moorland stretching for miles - which is what I miss...
I agree. Still, it's not what you said.

I love the Moors and the Lakes and find myself at my most peaceful when I'm walking there. But every county has something to offer. Essex has some fantastic countryside.

I have a bottle of non-alcoholic communion wine - but I never use that as it tastes like rancid drain water...
I did find an old bottle of christmas mulled wine - but didn't think that was quite the ticket - so I stopped at the offie on the way and stocked up on Merlot!

In case I don't get the chance after today or in case I forget I'm putting up my number for the Marathon.
It's 18099 and you can track my progress on the Virgin London Marathon website if you want. link here: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A ... cjlE1NlEtA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.
Oh, and whilst I remember I'm not raising money for a particular charity this time but perhaps you could all chuck a quid in the next charity collector's tin you see. That way we spread the wealth.
See you on the other side.

Should have thought you knew that Greater Manchester, bordered by Lancashire, Chesire, Derbyshire, the Peak District and the Yorkshire Moors and Dales and not a million miles from Cumbria and the Lake District, beats anything the south can offer scenery-wise G.G..Gooner Girl wrote:But West Sussex beats all countys really. 80% rural, 50% of it is designated area of outstanding natural beauty, we have the beach and coastline, loads of woods and the South Downs so nerr!

Good luck GtE - You'll smash it mate.
Bruce - that picture made me sad. My last long run 18 miles over Entwistle, Scout Moor & Holcombe Moor was via that very long path before turning down to the camping barn. Oh to be able to run 18 miles now

Dog walking & sandwiches is about the finest offer anyone could make me! However, I'll be in London this weekend in the hotel I booked to do the ruddy marathonBruce Rioja wrote:Oh.Harry Genshaw wrote:Good luck GtE - You'll smash it mate.

Of course! Another plus for the area. The headquarters of our County Championship winning cricket team!Gooner Girl wrote:But it also has Old Trafford...TANGODANCER wrote:Should have thought you knew that Greater Manchester, bordered by Lancashire, Chesire, Derbyshire, the Peak District and the Yorkshire Moors and Dales and not a million miles from Cumbria and the Lake District, beats anything the south can offer scenery-wise G.G..Gooner Girl wrote:But West Sussex beats all countys really. 80% rural, 50% of it is designated area of outstanding natural beauty, we have the beach and coastline, loads of woods and the South Downs so nerr!

Re: The athletics/running thread
It was a relatively easy route, from mine to Darcy Cricket Club, but I did 4.3k tonight, in 25 minutes
Don't think I could do it in reverse yet but I'm quite pleased with myself
Well, I would be if I could focus on owt other than breathing
