An activist who took part in a protest against the construction of an Olympic facility says he has been handed a court order banning him from approaching any Olympic venue, activity or official.

The interim antisocial behaviour order (asbo) given to Simon Moore, 29, is believed to be the first pre-emptive Olympic asbo requested by Scotland Yard to prevent protests at the Games. It also bars Moore from going near events to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee, the trooping of the colour and the state opening of parliament.
No. He's a free-loading, attention seeking social inadequate.

There ... THAT's off my chest.
he may well be, Bobo - but do you really think that such sweeping powers over protesters is a good idea? We cannot applaud when unlikeable knob-head protesters are treated like this - and then later on complain when we find that a government is using such powers to prevent legitimate protest against its own activities... if you don't think they would - then I'd diagnose early onset of senile naivity!! (it wasn't that long ago that an 80-odd yr old bloke was detained under the powers of the terrorism act for heckling Jack Straw at a Labour Party conference...)
Yep. :oyea:

I don't understand energy-saving light-bulbs and talk of cost. When I was at school, energy prices were 5p per kwh. By my maths, a 60W light bulb left on for 24 hours solid would cost 8p. Now I know energy prices have gone up, but they can't have gone up THAT much?!

The UK prices are now about 10-12 p per kwh depending on the supplier. By comparison it is about4 p in Quebec (say one third the UK cost). However, as I suspect you know, energy conservation is not simply about how much an individual can save. There are many other factors at work. As populations grow and require more power, power grids get overloaded. Then more power stations have to be built with their attendant dangers and ecological problems, regardless of the power source. It seems to me far better to work on ways of reducing power requirements rather than increasing supply to meet a growing demand.

I am sorry to have convulsed you, GG, but it is all relative. To some of us Bobo is but a callow youth...

Well, perhaps not angry, but........

Just got an enquiry in at work which requires me to go to That London for a meeting. Ace, thinks I, I'll schedule it around the Spurs game. For some reason I'd got it in my head that the Spurs game in a couple of weeks is at WHL rather than at our place. :(

You tried any of Stuart Macbride's books squire? Excellent and darkly humourous crime fiction set in Aberdeen. I commend them to you for your next trip up there.

Thanks for the recommend, fella. Will do. Aberdeen really is a city in which I just like to leave the hotel room and walk, and walk, and walk. It also has a simply magnificent Indian restaurant up the hill from the train station. (and a magnificent Vietnamese restaurant that I found once out of just walking around the place, but have never managed to find again since).
