3K in a terrible time of 19:43, but I'm just happy to get going again. Will step it up on Thursday
Keep going Bruce, you were doing fab with gum and running before your enforced break!![]()
Many thanks for the encouragement, GG. It does feel like I've lost my gains just now - but I'm sure I'll be back to where I was in a week or two. I'll stick at it

And i've lost any fitness i had too. Its depressing, hard to find the motivation to start again, even though i know if i do it will come back pretty quickly.

Somehow the men have managed to engineer my very serious Haywards Heath Harriers coaches meeting to be held down the pub next week. How do blokes do that?

Much the same as when I went in. I can take my ale. Your boys will only be on shandy anyway.

Stands to reason. All Southerners are shandy drinkers.

Hmmm, you say all that but as far as I am aware none of them are into the habit of flashing their nipples as they play air guitar in public...Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:So not a lot then?!Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:

You have to down a pint of beer as fast as you can then run a mile as fast as you can straight after.

Re: The athletics/running thread
A couple of questions for you runners from casual interest:
I've mentioned before seeing a couple of near neighbours I know, out running regularly, sometimes singly, quite often together. They have dogs and the bloke often runs with a sled dog ( Siberian husky) for company. Reading today's BN I saw a pic of Maria, the girl, who apparently after returning from injury, came fourth in the Annual Bolton 10K race. Her finish time was 41:20
The male winner (for the third year in a row) turned in a time of 34:34. Just wondered how good these times were from a runners point of view?
( A 74 year old Horwich R.M.I runner did the course in 58:43.
)
A Bolton Harrier clocked 2:50:01 in the London Marathon last week. That sounds very good?
Just interested.

All sounds good to me TD. I always base it against a 4 minute mile in a Roger Bannister stylee.
So 10k at 34:34 is the same as 6.25 miles which is a 5.5 minute mile (pretty fast) or 11 miles per hour
My PB over 10k is 43.47 which is an average of 7 minutes per mile or 8.6 miles per hour
My PB over 5k is 21.04 which is an average of 6.7 minutes per mile or 9 miles per hour
My PB over 1/2 marathon is 1.36.37 which is an average of 7.3 minutes per mile per 8.2 miles per hour
Sorry you asked?

Not at all GtE. Don't ask, you'll never know. Apparently the course was very heavy, due to all the rain lately, so Maria's time, recovering from injury, was pretty impressive. . Cheers.Gary the Enfield wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:A couple of questions for you runners from casual interest:

Conditions have a bearing. As does age. The times I've posted are for road races except the 5k which is trail (but still firm underfoot). You would imagine on a flat road race she would have been even faster.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I know Maria to say "hello" to and as good as that time is, I'd expect her to beat it. I'm sure she's done sub 20 minutes at 5k before, so on a fast 10k course, which Bolton is (weather permitting), I'm sure she's well capable of getting well under 41 minutes.
