You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Well they will do. They attract higher interest and buy at advantageous rates. That's simple business. What's it to do with this or any other government?thebish wrote:we're all in this together...

Alternatively, when we hang the capitalists they will sell us the rope.

Right, come on Insane - you've had all weekend to get your figures in order.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Yeah.. I get all that.BWFC_Insane wrote: They've cut too far and too fast. Even the Tories have said the road to recovery is growth. On that all parties were agreed. Labour had started to deliver growth then the Tories came along and were hell bent on making everyone redundant and culling the public sector and did it far too quickly.
This has dragged us back into recession, and with rising unemployment and no growth the future looks very bleak indeed.
The Tories did not factor in that with their public sector culls they were going to harm the private sector massively. I see it every day.
Reducing the deficit was important but never the most pressing priority. We had some growth in an economy that was still fragile and recovering. The most important thing was to continue that and strengthen it, before we attacked jobs and services.
As it is its a complete and utter shambles.
But what I'm really interested in is your view of how different the Labour spending plans were from the Coalition's? This might be answered with numbers.
And what is your view of how different the numbers would now be if they had been implemented? Again, a numerical response is probably best here, even if it's only rough.
Because, for you to say that "Osborne and Cameron have got it massively and embarrasingly [sic] wrong", in your world, the margin (in numbers) must be enormous?

My understanding is that the Tories have cut spending by a further 50% over and above the planned Labour figure.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Right, come on Insane - you've had all weekend to get your figures in order.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Yeah.. And that significant portions of planned Labour cuts were brought forward by a year to be implemented in 11-12 rather than 12-13.
Nobody is denying that Labour planned cuts as well, its the speed and severity of the Tory ones that has launced us back into recession rather than a more shallow and slightly less severe program that would have maintained the economic growth and recovery.

Only just seen this, bit late I know but after the facebook fiasco I stopped reading it!

Carry's on much longer and many of the worlds worst troubled places will look like "a walk in the park" compared to millionaire dictator Morris's Bolton.

Re: The Politics Thread
Just debating whether to go out and vote tonight. Fed up of all the main parties. There is an independent standing in my ward but would I better off chucking my ballot paper down the bog? Do I vote Labour as a protest against the coalition?
Anyone else bothering this evening?

Done mine. I got three votes - weyheeeey
BTW, does anyone know what the Area Forum budgets are all about? Apparently, where I live Labour only allocates us £36,060, but where Tango lives it's £90,674.

In fairness, I like the bit of Farnworth I live in and I've been here over thirty years. There are other bits, however, with few redeeming features....Harry Genshaw wrote:It means you live in a posh area and Tango lives in FarnworthBruce Rioja wrote:Done mine. I got three votes - weyheeeey

Re: The Politics Thread
I got to vote this time after my dimwit neighbours disenfranchised me for the general election. Most civilised it was too as I was able to vote 1,2,3... rather than X. That said, the plywood booth and scratchy pencil on a string were a bit shit still.
Re: The Politics Thread
32% turnout!!!! that’s ridiculous I assume that everything is in place to handle a 100% turnout so good 'ole tax payer wastes his own tax
Voting should be compulsory even if the option of cannot find a suitable candidate is added, at least if this option wins
it will put pressure on the other lot to improve!
If I was Labour out of this one, I would be quietly content but I reckon in these times I would manage to get a few Hobohist councillors so it is not much to brag about.
The liberal lot are learning fast that being wet behind the ears and sleeping with the powerful is a dangerous game they'll eat you in the end, so much for all the wets who took that option on here
get back to your tree hugging roots or the greens will eat you up.
Posh and his fag, boys you want to win you cannot ignore the majority. There are serious issues with Europe, immigration, benefits and the financing/business scandals that keep repeating themselves.
Our government needs to work to haul in the reigns of the artificial global economy, the German government governs and is not in bed with all sorts of self interest money men their interest is Germany as yours should be GB or what’s left of it after we let the leeches north of the border go. I read somewhere that the Northern Province is costing a fortune so give it McGuiness and tell him to piss off when the loyalists start. That is a start!
