I spoke to a friend of mine who is a high ranking officer in the Met. Police. No such directive exists he said, and they all use interactive white boards now.

I have a relative whose very job it is to chase up these very stories, verify them, and usually ask for an apology.
In her words, not mine, "90% of it is just made up or so hopelessly distorted as to have no real basis in reality".
Oh, and step forward the main culprits in this order:
1) The Daily Mail
2) The Sun
You couldn't make it up?
No, actually, they just did.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
The Daily mail were the ones that reported that Greater Manchester police in Bolton were making people take St. George's flags down on St. George's day. Cue a load of morons in uproar threatening to burn anything that resemled a crescent shape.
Anyhow, the police got inundated with complaints about such one-sided politics. They went potty about it. They've not received an apology from the paper. Just an explanation, that an unnamed source phoned them..
This kind off bullshit could have serious consequences one day. But maybe that's their aim, create hysteria that leads to BIG headlines in the form of racial tension and violence.

Then the law should make it known that the Editor/owners of newspapers will be the ones to suffer for publishing tripe, regarless of source.

Well that's the thing. They're allowed leeway on confidentiality. which is right, because if somebody goes to press about such and such a thing and ends up with his name printed and gets killed because of it. That would be even more irresponsible, so they hide behind their "Sources close to the person/family/club/footballer"

But who is going to prosecute them, and under which existing law?
You must have noticed the recent press enquiry, apparently there are enough people who naively believe that Rupert Murdoch has somehow made his billions by being honest (or indeed himself naive) and not actually that he actively created an environment where all this goes on.
That, or they're in his pocket, but its clear that hasn't happened. Anywhere. Ever.

Sure - but why not contact GMP to test the story's veracity ahead of going to print?boltonboris wrote:Well that's the thing. Holding us to ransom because we're currently fully loaded and trying to meet tight deadlines, without thnking beyond the next 6 months.
Cue a large increase in our overheads now, along with general increases in all other areas like transport, paint, materials, and poor export conditions.

Sounds like a strangely socialist argument Bobo.
Are you suggesting a redistribution of wealth by those who have it to those who haven't?

I'm pointing out that the Brothers are as singularly self serving, in their 'socialism', as any banker will ever be.Lord Kangana wrote:Sounds like a strangely socialist argument Bobo.

I doubt there would be any evidence to suggest that any (or all) unions had cost us 3/4's of a trillion in recent history though. So means and motive, you know.

I'd hold that the buggers managed to shut more factories & cost more wasted time & energy than the Luftwaffe ever managed. But hey ... I suspect we come from different stances on this so let's not fall out.

hmmm... true with blackboard - but with your original claim around "blacklist"... I very much doubt that anyone will "pop up" in the future and complain that whiteboards amount to racism - in just the same way that the met have NOT banned the word blacklist.TANGODANCER wrote:And there's the daft rub of it all Verbal. Describing something by its colour has nothing to do with anything except an attempt at accuracy. people repeating all this nonsense - which is very rarely actually true - is the problem...

I don't dispute they did 30 or so years ago.
But now? Now they're just paper tigers.
In that sense, the "unions for the noughties" (if you will ) is/are the bankers and the banking industry. Even ruddy Mervyn King (in a cheap attempt to save face) said as much last week.
