This thread has trawled both ends of the English language spectrum!

Truth be told, I'd be hard pressed to define the "subjunctive" definitively in English - it being more of a "mood" than an actual tense.. far easier in Latin!

It certainly isn't a tense Bishy, god no! Always the subjunctive mood. Conditional can awkwardly be both. As you say much easier in Latin. I like Latin, nice easily, regular Latin. Greek is a bitch. Subjonctif rarely crops up in English other than in sort of stock phrases, my 'Be that as it may', your 'Truth be told' and other ones such as 'God save the Queen'. I also quite like how folk from God's own county often accidentally get it right when used in conditional sentences, such as 'If I were older, I might drink mild'. They also accidentally get the 'a'/'an' distinction correct when referring to words like 'hospital'.

All that makes me realise I was talking bollocks anyway. TD did have a subjunctive in 'I wouldn't be too sure, if Nixon is to be believed'. Pissed me talks shite.

Thank you. I was scared and confused that we were losing sight of the thread's reason for existence.

Our friend Mr Picollo however may not be so welcoming...just be careful, he makes Gifs, and he's not afraid to post them :)
