The only bit of bad news in all of that was Zat Knight could still be around.BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ers-832866

FFS!Zat Knight is also keen to play on, with a better chance of a start after David Wheater’s knee injury, but he would also be on a smaller deal.

Phil Gartside said tonight on R5 that Coyle has slashed the wage bill by 50%, so I very much doubt that.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Coyle released left back Paul Robinson, injury-jinxed midfielder Sean Davis and Robbie Blake before the final game - with Ricardo Gardner also going after one knee problem too many.
The departure of those five alone will wipe over £7 million off the payroll, with other out-of-contract players to go.

If this can offer any form of hope, I got chatting to an old school pal at the dinner last night who works for BWFC, says Knight wants to go to the MLS to finish his career off. Go on Tim, sell it to him!officer_dibble wrote:FFS!Zat Knight is also keen to play on, with a better chance of a start after David Wheater’s knee injury, but he would also be on a smaller deal.

I can bet Jussi and Davis are/were on nice chunky salaries.Sponge wrote:Coyle released left back Paul Robinson, injury-jinxed midfielder Sean Davis and Robbie Blake before the final game - with Ricardo Gardner also going after one knee problem too many.

Not happy about the prospect of Knight and not Steinsson being offered a contractBWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ers-832866

Goddammit that much money for those five?
Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
I imagine Wheater's injury may be the only thing getting Knight a contract. That's the only real disappointment in all of that for me. Can't see NRC sticking around, and can't really blame him for wanting to leave, at least we would get a fee for player we got for nowt in that situation.

It's good because we will give more time to Vela that way and make a profitBeefheart wrote:I imagine Wheater's injury may be the only thing getting Knight a contract. Doubt what? According to that the three loans cost us 5M in wages. Easy to see how we've slashed it releasing those and the others and reducing deals for several!Lord Kangana wrote:Phil Gartside said tonight on R5 that Coyle has slashed the wage bill by 50%, so I very much doubt that.

Before Wheater went down I was all for dropping Knight like a bad habit. Now I’m not so sure. If he wants to stay on lower wages it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Save us the trouble of finding a replacement. He isn’t Gerald Cid level awful. I think I’ve always been resentful of how much Megson paid for him, both in terms of wages and the transfer fee.TKIZ! wrote:Not happy about the prospect of Knight and not Steinsson being offered a contractBWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ers-832866

I like Steinsson. He truly cares about the club and we’d have gone down back in 2008 without him, I really believe that. He’s just never recaptured that passion and form he had back then, which makes me sad.
Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
So a total saving of £13m from £54m spent on wages?
I think if we offered Steinsson reduced terms he would accept.

Zat Knight staying.
50% is a lot of money. A lot. In fact its about £28m a lot. £28.32m if Gartside wasn't lying.
£7m is a bit of a piss in the ocean under those circumstances, wouldn't you say?

Correction £28.032m.
Apologies for the incorrect data.

Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
7M only covers 5 of the released players. Couple more outside that, let's add another three. 5 for the loans. We are up to 15. Reduced terms for those being renegotiated adds several million. Also we negotiated delegation wage drop clauses in players signed over the last couple of seasons so a few million saved there. Probably not far off 28 and I'm sure Gartside was approximating.Lord Kangana wrote:Zat Knight staying.

Be surprised if we kept Knight but if it's on much lower terms, could see why!
