well - not really, as there will be another long delay... we could - of course - have simply put him on trial ourselves - no?

We could have shot him to or stuffed him in a holdall, he's gone and if it means tormenting him for another couple of months, so be it, it will give him longer to reflect upon his upcoming stay in the Jordainian Hilton were torture hopefully replaces breakfast!thebish wrote:Hoboh wrote:

They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.
Poor man last, rich man first.

What I don't get is how little has been made of the Jordan torturing folk thing. Obviously not from Hoboh, but, you know.....
And how we seem to be intricately linked with the euphemistic rendition of folk.

Amazingly (or, perhaps not) 'we' approve of torture... Some of us on here think it should be for breakfast...Prufrock wrote:What I don't get is how little has been made of the Jordan torturing folk thing. Obviously not from Hoboh, but, you know.....

Or, perhaps, some of us really dislike those of us that disapprove of torture... because we think even 'despicable' people have rights... and the truth is if they don't have rights none of us do...
It's now pretty clear that we participated in 'rendition' - that is turning people over to be tortured, against all international law... I long for the fantasy I have of Blair having to face an international court to come true...
Re: The Politics Thread
Tony Blair is African?
In all serious, never ever going to happen. I don't think it is that clear cut he knew. Somebody did though. 'Folk' seem to reckon Jack Straw did.
Anyway, on topic, I haven't even heard the argument mentioned anywhere at all re:Qatada, of what the feck are Jordan doing torturing folk? Nearest being the seizure of the word 'suspected', to infer they didn't, so it's all right.

'Despicable' people' hardly begins to describe what they do or preach does it?
You know the sooner a lot of folk get the romantic notion of freedom fighters aka "Che" Guevara types out of their heads and realise that these people are the lowest form of pond life going, the better.
'These people' are happy to live outside of society’s laws and norms, do not care one jot about anyone’s rights nor international law and murder, maim, bomb innocents then hide under the 'rights' they violate.
It is not I dislike those who disapprove of torture I just wonder when they will wake up and smell the coffee.
I think that, like myself, there is a huge majority of society that does not give a damm what happens to folk like Qatada and probably thanked God for Bin Bags belated fate!

'And on hacking, David Cameron did discuss it with Rebekah Brooks in 2010.
So why did he never raise the topic again with Andy Coulson after the Tories first employed him?'

Far be it for us to tell another Country how to run it's affairs, as we're constantly told when we're out trying to depose despots...Hoboh wrote:William the White wrote:Amazingly (or, perhaps not) 'we' approve of torture... Re: The Politics Thread
are you sure that 0.56% of GDP would set our house "in order"?? sounds like peanuts to me. The government is to be applauded for keeping our looooooooooooooooooooong-ago made promises to work towards a paltry 0.7%
well done Cameron, I say.
(also - not sure what this story has to do with "the krauts"

Some amazing comments on that article
My favourite
That said I don't think we'd lose anything by slowing down our progress to 0.7%

As well as just being good global citizens it's all about trying to get some softish power for Britain. It's also handy to threaten to take it away when countries do things we don't like.Made it law that all companies must have a 99% British Citizen workforce, thus ensuring jobs for our people.

Please do tell what power we get from filling up Chief bangitupuns African (sorry Swiss) bank account? Or giving India money they don't want?Athers wrote:Some amazing comments on that article

If countrys do things "we don't like" we could donate the odd cruise missile or two.

The shop is not looking to extend its licence to 3am or 4am and that the councillor has missed that point. The heading was “Supermarket’s Olympic booze bid is condemned”. The store wants to sell alcohol from 6am to midnight.
Cllr Linda Byrne said: “I just don’t understand the logic behind the alcohol element of this application at all. Why on earth would anyone need to go out and buy a bottle of wine at 3am or 4am?”

Well that's where I thought he was heading...
But just in case it was something even more random, I thought I better ask.

the brave new world of the Tory NHS..
http://www.barnsley.nhs.uk/every-adult- ... eaflet.pdf
now "care navigators" are being employed to guide patients through the complex decisions and options they have when faced with a serious illness...
excuse me - isn't that what a GP is supposed to do??
