There would've been, had he not said he wasn't interested.

Great vox-pop on SSN the day after Dalglish wentIanmooreslovechild wrote:Liverpool fans are to some degree a bit thick. Their reaction to the failure of the old king is to want to replace him with another old king(Benitez)
Fan: That's the problem with Kenny, y'see. You should never go back.
SSN Reporter: So who would you like to see as the next manager?
Fan (no hint of irony): Benitez
Re: Liverpool laughing stocks?
And that differs from my point how, exactly? He can't 'turn down' something that hasn't been offered to him. Might as well have the manager of Accy Stanley coming out saying he'd turned down Liverpool in that case.boltonboris wrote:There would've been, had he not said he wasn't interested.
In fact it's a lot easier to turn something down when it's not on the table - makes you look good among your constituents, and offers an excuse if you were never approached in the end.
Re: Liverpool laughing stocks?
And Brenda Rodgers is not the manager of Swansea - but other than that you are correct...blurred wrote:Except there's been no approach from Liverpool to Swansea. But other than that you're correct.David Lee's Hair wrote:Turned down by Brenda Rodgers.... but they are massive...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Fokkers!
When we went to the Imperial War Museum my daughter was in stitches as I tried to explain the Fokke Wulf suspended from the ceiling wasn't a rude word.

Good job they didn't put Wankel engines in Fokke Wulf, you might have been there a while.Gary the Enfield wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:They bombed our chippy!bobo the clown wrote:Stressy.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Scousers and that famous sense of humour eh....

I just don't think there's any indication that Martinez would be capable of getting Liverpool to where their fans think they belong. He's done a decent job keeping Wigan up year after year but does that really prepare you for one of the "big club" jobs? Maybe, maybe not. I could see why they would want someone more proven as a few more season like this one and they can kiss the Champions League goodbye forever.Ianmooreslovechild wrote:LOLthebish wrote:doing the rounds...
Breaking news: it has just been reported that the next person to turn down the Liverpool job will have their benefits stopped....
I dont get the Martinez is rubbish line. Wigan were one decent striker and one decent centre half away from being a good upper mid table side last season and played some decent football. Martinez is an intelligent, innovative manager with good public relations skills. Liverpool fans are to some degree a bit thick. Their reaction to the failure of the old king is to want to replace him with another old king(Benitez) No imagination and a rather rosy memory of what was. With quality players and a bit of money there is every chance Martinez will be their best manager in 20 years and in 8 years time the koppites will demanding that he come back and manage them again. As for wigan rumours of a steve bruce return. They wont be going down theyll be going back to what they always were. Perenial ordinary and managed by an annoying fella with silly hair and firmer tits than most girls his age
Benitez though, f*** me. Fits right in at Liverpool considering he stole a living for years.

Benitez is proven though at winning the champions league and qualifying a team for it..........H. So I'm not entirely sure I understand your point. The main problem is that someone like Martinez is a long term appointment when Liverpool fans will expect an instant fix!
Re: Liverpool laughing stocks?
nahh - that can't be right... after all - Liverpool fans are the most knowledgeable fans in the world, aren't they? At least - that's what I've been given to believe by 1001 fawning commentators over the years...BWFC_Insane wrote:

Re: Liverpool laughing stocks?
This IS the same Snr. Martinez who 'guided' Wiggin to an 8 match losing streak earlier last season ? He did manage a 1/4 season where everything clicked & all the best to him for that, but he's not exactly the Messiah, is he ?!
(Cue ... "No, he's a very naughty boy")

Is keeping Wigan in the premiership as hard as getting Liverpool a top 4 spot?bobo the clown wrote:This IS the same Snr. Martinez who 'guided' Wiggin to an 8 match losing streak earlier last season ? It doesn't matter who's in charge. Anfield is EXTRA special on those European nights! Don't forget that.
