Re: Chung yong signed until 2015
Yeah it's been mentioned in a couple other threads but it probably deserves its own.
As I said elsewhere, I presume the reason this was not announced is that we were telling everyone we wouldn't sort out contracts until the end of the season. The likes of Knight, Steinsson, Ricketts, etc. might have insisted on clarification of their futures if they knew that Lee was being offered an extended deal.
Not sure if I care for the way it was handled, personally.

Aye - you were denied an opportunity to piss and moan about Coyle giving a contract to an injured player.H. Pedersen wrote:Yeah it's been mentioned in a couple other threads but it probably deserves its own.

Haha. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we extended Lee's deal. But keeping it a secret from the rest of the boys while leaving their futures up in the air isn't exactly a stand-up thing to do. Could potentially put people off from dealing with us.Wandering Willy wrote:Aye - you were denied an opportunity to piss and moan about Coyle giving a contract to an injured player.

can you explain how "the way it was handled" has harmed any of us? what is the gripe actually about??

what difference does keeping it a secret make? every club makes decisions one way or another about players and new contracts - some will be happy - others not.

Could it be because he had just suffered a potentially career threatening injury and even though it was assumed he would make a full recovery, it was a bit of a gamble to pledge an extra couple of years worth of wages on a player who might never be the same/play again?Wandering Willy wrote:Aye - you were denied an opportunity to piss and moan about Coyle giving a contract to an injured player.H. Re: Chung yong signed until 2015
As I said in another thread, it doesn't harm the fans. But if it was kept secret from the rest of the team - and that's an if, I have no way of knowing if it was - then it's rather duplicitous.
Re: Chung yong signed until 2015
I'm sure the club took that into account - in which case - given his broken leg - we might have tied him down on what is (for us) a very advantageous deal.onlywanderer wrote:Could it be because he had just suffered a potentially career threatening injury and even though it was assumed he would make a full recovery, it was a bit of a gamble to pledge an extra couple of years worth of wages on a player who might never be the same/play again?Wandering Willy wrote:Aye - you were denied an opportunity to piss and moan about Coyle giving a contract to an injured player.H. Aye. But what fee?
Re: Chung yong signed until 2015
Thought folk were saying it was last summer before he got injured? Hardly duplicitous!
How the feck LCY not being out of contract next summer is anything but brilliant news is so far beyond me as to not be worth bothering to try to understand as there isn't enough possible thinking time to comprehend it.
