there's not really much value in any of them - there are plenty stacked up on ebay not selling. maybe the stool has some value - but I'd rather it went locally to a good home...

I send my unwanted stools to Upton Park.
They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.

and if they want to make all that effort to make a few quid - they are welcome to it! The key for me with most of this stuff is that the alternative was simply dragging it all to the dump. I'd rather the stuff had an extended life in someone else's house than it all go to landfill...

Fair enough. It's just sad that what is, potentially, a socially and morally nice thing to do (offer up unwanted household items free of charge to those who want/ need it) is being exploited by greedy opportunists.

yeah... guess so.. I try to be fairly discriminating in who I give my stuff to - mostly people who I have seen offering stuff themselves - and my job kinda trains me to spot a made-up sob-story in seconds! but I'm sure stuff ends up being sold on ebay or at car boots...

i don't have any stuff that valuable to give away - and if I did (like the missus's old MA books) - I sell the items myself - unless it is simply too much of a bother..

a grimy 3rd-hand reclining armchair has virtually no resale value and is certainly not worth the hassle of arranging delivery!

whilst part of the point of freegle is giving stuff to people who might need it or have a use for it - the core of Freegle is stopping it going into landfill...

On a similar note, has anyone sold any books they own on Amazon? Got a few textbooks I want to shift and could do with the £££ at the moment!

Not 'till I fill out a 'security' questionnaire to veirfy my identity. 'what was your first car, your first job' etc. I'm buying something from your service, you dont need my history. Cnuts

I once advertised "good homes wanted for five kittens" (we already had three cats). Eventually got them all located satisfactorily, but the phone calls of enquiry bordered on the ridiculous. One guy rang up and asked how much (despite the ad saying free to good homes). I told him they were free. He then said "Do you deliver?". I tried desperately not to say: " Oh aye, we'll bring it round with a basket, bedding and a year's supply of Kit-Kat". Finished up saying, "Oh, hang on, that was the last one and the wife just promised it to someone"

Animals usually prefer what they shouldn't have. Our current tripe-hound will fight a tiger for a bit of cheese despite dairy products supposedly being bad for them. He leaves his food every night untill I sprinkle a bit of grated cheese on it, then wolfs it. He's also very partial to a bit of buttered toast and scrounges a Smint off the wife every night before bedtime. He goes out for a pee in the garden last thing and won't come in till I get him a tripe stick. Not that he rules the house or anything......

What an excellent idea. Regarding Gary's comment re collection being difficult then I suppose it's quite simple. If you can't collect then you can't have. That said, there'll be plenty of up-northing and down-southing when the new season starts.

Shall I make a start (as in, a new thread)? I have some shelves that I've taken down in the kitchen - I don't like them - they came with the house.
May the bridges I burn light your way
