Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
I'd have thought the two young, apparently very highly rated young keepers we have in Lynch and Lainton would have sufficed as cover, but I guess Coyle thinks they're not ready.
Not sure I see much evidence though, of Coyle being prepared to give youth a chance, or wanting a younger squad this season, his words not mine. Nothing he is doing or has done shows much evidence of achieving that.

He's just signed a chuffin' teenager and got pelters for it.

But yeah I'd just like to see young kids get a proper chance especially the likes of Riley who looked promising last season.
Just think some of Coyles talk of backing youth and bringing in young players and having a 'younger, fitter, hungrier squad' for this season look a bit baloney.
Not that I've anything against Mills or Andrews both solid signings, and the type you need to get out of the championship. But I'll be annoyed if Riley is constantly overlooked for Mears assuming Riley's progress continues of course..

Will you still care if we're promoted?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Yeah, I get your point, it's fair enough.BWFC_Insane wrote:Not from me like....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:He's just signed a chuffin' teenager and got pelters for it.

Lonergan's an odd one – not exactly the wise-old-head Walker/Poole/Jussi type who could dispense decades of wisdom to young Boggers, Lainners and Lynchers. All things being equal I wouldn't go for a 28-year-old goalkeeper, but on the other hand he was first-choice goalkeeper for a leading team in this division and could be available for nowt much.
On the youth thing, I'm not sure I'd hang the verdict on Coyle based entirely on Mears v Riley - the stats from their (limited) appearances last season suggest the older man is the better player, although that's kinda to be expected at the moment. I'd rather pick the best bloke for the position, while also having a few other options to hand. I honestly think that this is what Coyle, for all his numerous faults, thinks too.
Besides, the squad is already a lot younger/fitter/hungrier for the loss of a fair few who'd disappeared over the hill. We don't have to have the entire matchday 18 filled with first-time shavers.

Maybe he'll be selling Bogdan to make room for Jensen?

Out of interest, how many times did Blake make the bench, last season?BL3 wrote:So we shouldn't be signing the likes of Robbie Blake to just sit on the bench and make up the numbers but we should be signing a keeper who will be happy to sit on the bench and make up the numbers?Puskas wrote:I could have seen us going for an experienced type, happy to sit on the bench. To provide back-up and maybe do some coaching with the younger up-and-coming keepers. But someone in their 20s? Who'll want to to be starting?

DSB - re Mears what stats?
He played at Norwich only...I weren't that impressed with his defending to be honest. I'll give him.a clean slate like but I prefferred Riley defensively from what I saw.

If it's been mentioned on here I apologise but did anyone notice that on Twitter we've been linked with The Beast that is Abdoulaye Faye?

Bwfcdan started that one! not a coyle signing!
Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
Much rather we tried one of the kids coming through as back up for the central defence rather than a 35 year old personally

I think the reason that Lynch doesn't get picked is because of his height. I've seen him in person and he's not very tall when compared with Jussi and Bogdan. Perhaps those extra few inches are what is stopping him.
